Bringing (importing?) firearms into the US from Canada

I married a wonderful lady from Canada almost 30 years ago. We just returned from her mom's funeral and while we were there her dad took me into the cellar and showed me his small long gun collection. I think they would all qualify as "modern" with the nicest being a Remington 77 BDL in .270 Win.. He wants them to end up with my son before he follows his wife. We are driving up from Texas this late summer (what a good time to evacuate August is). And plane to bring back at least 3 but maybe 4 long guns.

Will this require an FFL? What other documentation? I have a Texas CCL but this will be a governed by Fed law. Crossing will be from New Brunswick into Maine.

What ATF forms / requirements for anyone who has been through this before . I'm guessing a #4473 is a given.

Thanks in advance.

Howdy Strange, you are gonna have to deal with ATF in the good ole (US of A) and on the Canadian side regarding Possession Acquisition Licence... Or have your Father in law, presumably Canadian, contact a customs Broker in Canada and ship through them... The customs broker will have to file proper documents in Canada and the USA and I believe ATF will need be involved. Good luck...

What we have here is a "shipping coals to Newcastle" situation. In other words, you could probably buy the exact same guns in the U.S. much more simply, easily, and cheaply, than what it would take to import them, as an individual, from Canada.

I would suggest taking lots of pictures of the guns, writing down all the identifying information, and perhaps keeping some unique parts (not the receivers). Then come back to the States and replace them locally.

The economics of moving them from Canada don't make any sense.

Depends on how much money you have and how much time you want to devote to it, I suppose.

There are a couple of companies in Canada that do import export to and from the USA and Canada.

I will give you 2 names of which I have personally done business with.
I have imported into Canada but from what I understand they also export to the USA.

IRUNGUNS LLC
They have a store front and range in Lake Havasu City Arizona and a location in Edmonton Alberta.
They specialize in import/export of firearms between Canada and the USA.

Prophet River Firearms.
I had an M1A National Match imported to Canada by Clay at Prophet River over a decade ago.
