Broken New P2000

I just purchased a hk p2000 .40 V2 and shot it about 30 times with no problems. After about 30 rounds the slide would not lock back after the mag was empty. Also, I didnt notice before, but the right slide release is a little loose. I do not think it was like this before the range session. Other than the right slide release being broken what else could it be?? Any help would be awesome, thank you.

I'm not quite sure why your slide isn't locking back, but your right slide release isn't broken. The H&K P2000 and P2000sk is famous for that "rattling" right slide release lever. My 9mm P2000sk V2 is the same way. A lot of people, including me, find it quite annoying. Nonetheless, it does not affect performance or reliability. Unless you are left-handed, you can actually take the right lever off completely and use only the left lever. It works perfectly and you don't have the "rattle" to annoy you. I don't think H&K should make a $800 pistol rattle anywhere, but for whatever reason they designed the right slide release lever w/ some extra play in it. 99.9% of the P2000s out there are this way, so it's definitely normal. They are fantastic guns otherwise and worth the premium without a doubt. H&K makes good stuff!

As for your slide not locking back, I wouldn't have a clue what's causing it if it's not operator error. H&Ks are probably the most reliable pistols money can buy. The chances of getting a lemon are slim to none. Make sure your thumbs are not riding the slide release when you shoot. A lot of 1911 guys tend to do this with their "thumbs forward" grip. I have P30L and a P2000SK, so I know what you are experiencing. It happens to me on occasion.

There is a 99% chance your thumbs are bumping the slide release and it is being released as it's being locked on the last round. Shoot it one handed or with your thumbs clearly off the release to be sure. Very unlikely it's broken.

i notice the same thing when I have double thumbs forward...i accidentally hit the slide release on the last round.

Try a different magazine. Could be that simple. I own quite a few HK pistols and have yet to get one that has had any malfunctions of any kind. I may be just lucky... but I don't think so. HK makes a great line of firearms.

As others have said - the right side is almost always loose.

I have a few Hks. In my USPc9 and USPc45 - after the third range trip, I'd start to get failure to lock backs in mags for both guns.

Go check out HK Pro's website forum. Tons of complaints over the years about the crappy mag springs that HK uses.

Most people change them out for Wolf springs. I had to do the same for all 7 USPc9 mags and all six USPC45 mags.

Takes a few trips and loadings before you can easily load that last round - but the problem is GONE.

The USPc9 uses the same mag as the P2000. This is likely your problem.

Thank you guys for responding and the great feedback. I called HK and the guy said it was probably just a bad mag. I did not know the HK was notorious for having a loose right slide release but I feel much better knowing that it is common and I dont have a problem. I should have tried a diff mag at the range. Live and learn i guess. Thanks again guys.

Not always - I paid very close attention to this for both of my USPc's, as stated above. It WAS the mag spring, not me pressing the slide release.

It acutally was my thumbs. I went out and shot today and it did it once, then I paid attention to my thumb placement and everything went fine after that. Thank you again for all the great advice guys.. Have a nice day
