I got a kinetic bullet puller. I was having a tough time getting the bullet to come out even after 6 or 7 hits. I experimented with gradually increasing how hard I hit until I found an amount of force that would dislodge the bullet.

I was very happy at first but the puller only survived about 5 pulls and then the plastic ring that screws down cracked right off.

Not sure if I was doing something wrong. 1st the bullets wouldn't come out and then *crack* broken.

That's not supposed to happen! Tell me you wern't hitting it on that end... :D

I have two, and never had that happen. I'd package it up and send it to the mfg., requesting a replacement.

Murphy strikes again...

LOL, yeah. I WAS hitting it on the correct end and NOT the end that screws down. The screw down cap does seem to need readjusting after every 3 or 4 swings (if the bullet hasn't come out yet).

I went to sportsmans warehouse today and got it replaced with no fuss. I would like to learn if I'm swinging the thing wrongly or too hard though.

Name the brand so it can be avoided. They work best with a heavy surface to hit on, I have a 4x4 that I put on the floor and hit it on the end grain.

What were you whacking it on? A carpet is no good. Pitch the busted one and go buy a Quinetics. I've had mine for 30 plus years with no trouble. I find a rock makes a good whacking place. Even with crimped surplus ball. Two or three whacks and it's done.

I have one of the RCBS ones, the one of solid green plastic. Haven't had any trouble with it, but admittedly, haven't had to use it much.

I've heard that the 'newer' style of puller that is around under various names, the one with the aluminum shaft, I hear those break all over the place.

I think it is covered under the RCBS lifetime warranty. Call their 1-800 number and I would be surpised if they don't send you a new one (collar at the very least). I also think Quinetics makes the RCBS puller. I have an older model RCBS one that also has the Quinetics name on it.

I once pulled a couple of thousand military 9mm with corrosive primers and lacquered in bullets. I beat the hell out of my RCBS puller and it lasted for 30 years when it broke I returned it to RCBS and they sent me a new one at no charge. Oh for what its worth if the bullets are lacquerd in or have some kind of sealant if you run them in a bullet seating die with the bullet seater set to seat the bullet slightly deeper it makes pulling much easier (breaks the seal). rugerman

Get a collet style puller that fits in a press...I tried the hammer style and while ok for one or two rounds, the collet style is much easier to use...
