One gunsmith I talked to that's had several BAR's told me if you use 2 piece rings instead of 1 piece ones that you can get about 1/2" smaller groups out of it. I never tried putting two piece rings on mine.
That statement is pretty much saying that the group size has nothing to do with the inherent accuracy of the gun.
If a gun is inherently incapable of tight groups then changing the optic mounting won't matter.
My '06 Safari shoots 1" groups easily if I do my job which is more than fine for a hunting rifle.
For what it's worth I have the Safari lightweight receiver and 2 piece optic mounting.
I have the BOSS system on mine and I use Hornady 180gr SST factory loads.
I do have a handload that I worked up but it doesn't really do any better than the Hornady loading.
