Browning BAR Advice

One gunsmith I talked to that's had several BAR's told me if you use 2 piece rings instead of 1 piece ones that you can get about 1/2" smaller groups out of it. I never tried putting two piece rings on mine.

That statement is pretty much saying that the group size has nothing to do with the inherent accuracy of the gun.

If a gun is inherently incapable of tight groups then changing the optic mounting won't matter.

My '06 Safari shoots 1" groups easily if I do my job which is more than fine for a hunting rifle.

For what it's worth I have the Safari lightweight receiver and 2 piece optic mounting.

I have the BOSS system on mine and I use Hornady 180gr SST factory loads.

I do have a handload that I worked up but it doesn't really do any better than the Hornady loading.

I tried at least 8 types of ammo and bullet weight in .270 wsm in my BAR. Those groups shown above look familiar, with ammo it liked. Traded it in for x-bolt and have been very happy with the decision.

Well, the gunsmith told me he had several and he figured it out with one of them the best groups he could get were 1.25" and when he sold it to his brother he changed the scope setup and mounts and they were both getting .75" groups. He said he tried it with another BAR with similar results. I don't know if this is true or not as I've not tried it. However, he claims it is and he has had several BARs. He said he also had a few customers tell him that they had also seen that.

Once again I've never tried so can't comment on if it's true or not.
