My current custom rifle project, which is in the works, as we speak: I'm having a custom scout mount fabricated (similar to AO Express for Marlin 336) for my Ruger .44 Deluxe Carbine, circa 1970. The base will be made from picatinny rail bar stock, and I will use quick detachable, back-to-zero rings for a Tasco Pro-Point red dot sight. Also included will be ghost ring rear sights and front post sights. All metal to be finished to match the rifle (black parkerized).
This should make an ideal fast handling, brush, swamp, hog and deer rifle for south Louisiana. I have already taken ten deer with this rifle with a 2.5x Bushnell Banner shotgun-scope mounted on see-through rings, but I found that I never used the open sights through the see-through rings. I think the low mounted red-dot sight, both-eyes-open, scout method, with ghost ring sight backup method will work well. What do you think?
I will post pictures when the rifle is finished.
