I am disassembling my new buckmark camper and I am at the stage where the manual say "Lift the recoil spring guide rod out of the slide." I can't. It lifts up at an angle and I cannot get it out since the back jams against the slide. Anyone know what I'm talking about or have suggestions?

First of all, this is a question for www.rimfirecentral.com. There is is guy with the handle "Chim" that has already forgotten more than I'll ever know about Buckmarks. He would tell you to use a dental pick to ease the black part of the assembly out of the slide. My first time tearing it down, I didn't have a dental pick and wound up bending the guide rod. I fixed it and it has been a bit easier ever since. I'll give you the advice of a "duffer" without many tools.

What I do is have the guide rod protrude from that assembly only about 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch (1/8 is better...the more you have exposed the better chance you have of bending the guide rod). I either lift it with the guide rod (with a .22 bore snake or something similar) or put that 1/8 of an inch of exposed guide on the edge of the coffee table (having my gun cleaning mat between the coffee table and the guide rod) and put downpressure on the slide. It's OK if it just moves a mm or two at first, be patient and work it out.

Sorry I don't have pictures...feel free to PM me if you don't understand my explanation.

I use a large pair of straight tweezers (that i bent a little) to grab the sides of the guide rod / firing pin assembly and lift it out of the slide.

I have not had much luck useing the guide rod to lift it out. it just wants to bind up.

I do use a little dry lube in the slide before putting it back together and made it easier to remove next time.

The first time I tried to disassemble my new Buckmark I couldn't get it all the way apart. I cleaned it the best I could, took it to the range, and put a couple hundred rounds through it. That loosened it up, and there have been no disassembly problems since.

Thats exactly what I did. I took it out to the range and fired about 250 round. 150 Minimags (100% function) and 100 Federal Champions (2 stovepiped, other than that they were fine) I am very pleased with the gun, it was very accurate and I am glad I chose it. One thing I found odd, but kind of liked about it was that it wouldn't cock without the magazine in it.

This has happened to me, too. I finally got it after just wrestling with it for a while. As Top Gunn mentioned, it does loosen after a range trip or two.

Vicious-Peanut,

That's because they started putting in a (removable) magazine disconnect.
