Went out today looking at .22's. I have been looking at Buckmarks for awhile but today I got to handle a Sig Trailside. Any opinions on these two? I know the Sigs are well made handguns but the slide on the Trailside didn't seem right.

Well, I had the same decision to make. I was choosing between the buckmark Target 5.5 and the Trail slide. I ended up with the buckmark and have been VERY happy with it ever since. It will shoot tiny groups from hand using cheap bulk ammo. I added a Hakko red dot and can't shoot it enough. From what I have read, either would be a good choice so don't worry about making a wrong one.

I loved my Buckmark Target 5.5 so much, I bought the buckmark rifle too!!
:D :D :D :D

I owned a Trailside 4/5" with target sights and it was a good shooter, but the $35 plastic mags and stubby frame turned me off.

Also, together, we weren't any more accurate that I am with my Buckmarks, so I sold the Sig and haven't regretted it.

I still have four Buckmarks though. :D

Well, I don't know anything about Buckmarks, never had one, but I do have a Trailside Target.
My first one had a truely great trigger, light, chrisp. It did everything I wanted except stay open on the last shot. I finally sent it back to Sig and they sent me a new gun. The new one's trigger isn't nearly as good, although not bad by most standards. In the mean time I picked up a 5.5" MKII which I shoot way better. Some day the Trailside may have to go.

I posed the same question last month. After shooting and evaluating both the Trailside and Buck Mark. I bought a Buck Mark.

Here is a link to that thread, along with another round of thanks to those who assisted me in my decision.

Here's a likeness of the Buck Mark I purchased. Sorry, I'm too tired to get any of the good photos I have of it out tonight. Maybe another time, when I post target photos too.

I carried it to the DFW Group shoot shortly after I got it; performed wonderfully. Now to get that replacement Weaver mount and red dot on it :D

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Rabbit.

My Trailside is much better built than the Buckmark I had, and has a better trigger than the Buckmark or the Mark II. As mentioned above, the damn mags are highway robbery and you only get one with the gun. Pretty inexcusable for the price. But it's a very nice pistol.

Sylvilagus,
I checked out your previous thread. It had some good info in it.
I noticed that you got the Camper and had a mount for a red dot on it.
Could you elaborate on that(or anyone else thats done it)?
I was looking at the Buckmark 5.5 Field because it had the scope mount on it and I assumed the no rail pistols would require machining.
Again using info from your post I checked out the Baikal. It looks like a great pistol but the grip is for right-handers only and my daughter is a southpaw.
Thanks for all the replies.
Just as a sidebar--I went out looking for an XD-40 and those .22's drew all my attention.

No maching required.
Just remove the two top screws as you would during disassembly, and replace the iron sight bar with the appropiate Weaver mount for the Buckmark.
Check the following websites to purchase the Weaver mount: Cabela's, Natchez Shooters, Brownells, Midway Usa, Browning, Weaver, B-square, and Sportsman Warehouse.
I have the current issue of Midway Usa catalog, and the mount is on page512, product #325-241, blued for $27.99. This one is made by B-square.
Weigand also makes one for $29.95 in the same catalog. Blued or stainless.
