I'm considering a SIG Trailside .22 and would like to hear from those who have one. I know from the forums that the Trailside has a good reputation. What is the trigger like? Is it difficult to take down and clean?
I currently have a Buckmark that I love. Would the trigger be similar to the Buckmark? I also have a MOsquito that I have not had any problems with, but I don't like the trigger.
So I'm thinking about getting rid of the Skeeter for a Trailside, but want to know that the trigger will be better than the skeeter.

Tell me anything else you think I might want to know.

Thanks for any help.

Do you mean that they work OK but get worn out? Does SIG sell magazines for the Trailside? I'm assuming that the Trailside is a discontinued model, correct?

I have two auto .22's. A Buckmark and a Trailside. Both are great. The Trailside has a bit better trigger. (I traded a "skeeter" for it) Both have good ergonomics. Both are accurate. I used some B Square .22 to weaver adapters to mount a red dot on mine. My mags work fine. Maybe they haven't been used enough to cause problems. Both guns are very dependable. No jamming etc.

The feed lips are flimsy, and after a while the rounds don't feed right, or won't even stay in the magazines. Entire magazine is plastic except the spring. Otherwise, great little pistol.

Walther supports the Hammerli product now; it's no longer called "Trailside" but "X-esse" (I think it was always called this in Europe).

The magazine used in the S&W41 (and some other models) would work in my Trailside. I could only insert them with the slide locked back, but they worked fine (no damage that I could see to magazine or pistol). The OEM Trailside magazine acts as part of the front strap, so there is a step down in that area when using the S&W magazine.

Mine has been great and very accurate with a good trigger. Complaints about breakage have been about the trigger guard cracking. The owners manual say to only use standard velocity ammo. That's all I have ever used in mine and no signs of any cracks and I've put several rounds through it. I did have one problem and that was the re cocking spring under the grip broke. I bought two new ones for about $7 shipped from Larry's and it was a simple and quick fix with a new version flat spring.

My only complaint is how the slide comes off and the expensive magazines.

It is very simple to disassemble but the optics rail is built into the top of the barrel and I have a red dot on top. To remove the slide you pull the trigger guard down and the slide pulls back then off the top so you have to remove the red dot to fully break it down.

Even with that I would love to have another 6in model for target use but they are harder to come by these days and the price seemed to have went up quite a bit. A few years ago you could find new 6in models for $350. I do need another good plinker, every time my girlfriend goes to the range with me that's all she wants to shoot and I never get much trigger time with it.

I sold my trailside because it was boring to shoot, bullseye every time and no failures to feed, wish I had it back, because my ruger does not stand up to it.

I replaced the plastic frame cap with a metal one fron Larrys. The plastic one seemed pretty low budget, plus I liked the added weight of the metal. The magazines do seem kind of flimsy as well; but I've yet to have a problem with them to date. The trigger is scary light; almost too light. Takes a little while to get used to but it breaks nice and clean without any sort of creep or overtravel. I get the best results, in terms of accuracy, from Wolf Match Target ammo.
