Basically looking to do a budget build at a bad time and paralyzed by the market right now(obviously).

So has anyone put in an order since sandy hook into delton for a complete kit?

If so any progress or does anyone have any insight into how long they will be sold out.

Also anyone take a chance with model1 sales or know of a smaller outfit who has any complete parts kits around 500 that is in stock/fast build?

I do wish you the best of luck with your endeavor but my Del-ton kit took 6 weeks or so and that was a couple of years ago when there was no panic. They are very popular and their suppliers run behind from time to time causing large delays during normal times.

Based on what I have seen lately, a $500 kit that you can get in a reasonable time is not going to happen.

There is no fast. You will have to be patient.

If you know what you want your upper to be/do/look like, consider gathering the parts yourself. Even if you don't actually build it yourself, you probably have a friend or two who has assembled an upper before.

If you don't, the action blocks and wrenches can be purchased, too.

I think that would be faster than waiting for a company to fill all the backorders for complete uppers that are already ahead of you.

DTI was perpetually out of stock well before Sandy Hook.

I ordered an upper from DSA in mid October. Still waiting.

People have had better luck with Palmetto, but I'm sure they're way backlogged right now.

Bottom line, it's gonna be awhile before you can put together a budget AR.

Uppers are becoming more common on PSA's website. I'm still yet to see a forged lower. You can find a plastic one at 2x the price on there right now. The have lower parts kits come in stock if you keep a watch. Bolt Carrier Groups are still a very major kink in the supply chain.

I'd agree that prices are still high enough and some parts rare enough that budget and fast isn't going to happen right now without a lot of luck.

The silver lining is you can save up while things cool off and easily have enough money to get a better gun than a Del Ton.

I stopped shooting USPSA because of this stupid shortage and probably just going to focus on other hobbies.

No more shooting, reloading, buying, selling for me until this blows over.

Palmetto shipped my parts kits exactly two weeks from order just like they said they would. So I think they are doing pretty well keeping their advertised timeline and are about one of the only places with components despite my not liking the price on their uppers.

You are better off buying individual parts from different sites/manufactures and putting them together as they come. There's no doing a budget AR build right now; even polymer lowers are priced way too much.

Check AR15.com forum, there's a thread that updates when parts are available from different manufacturers.

If you can wait a few months til the summer, you might have better luck when prices come back down.

I don't know if this is relevant to the OP's question but I ordered a complete upper from CMMG, a company that is known to have significant waiting times in orders long before the events of late last year.
And not a trivial order. A Revolution upper, stainless BCG, .22LR, left hand. It just arrived yesterday so call it seven weeks block to block. I was told that it would likely take six to seven months (by forum members, CMMG never responded to my emails) and so I hunkered down to expect it after the summer.
So, a pleasant surprise. I'd thus suggest you do what I did which is, despite the potential long wait times, just order stuff. It's not going to arrive any sooner by waiting, and you might just get a pleasant surprise.

I wish they had done so with mine. I've placed two orders since they have been saying 15 business days and both have been a bit over. Nothing absurd, but still over. I have another order placed right now, we will see how it goes. I've ordered from PSA several times and am still doing it.

Their upper prices are high right now. However, people are still snatching them up and they are still selling out in a few days of putting stuff up. Personally I'd wait for prices to come down before buying an upper from them. Particularly considering that finding a BCG is going to be tough and expensive right now anyhow and the upper isn't much good without that.

Just thought I'd note that I got a shipping notice on my last order from PSA and it is within the stated time.

For $650, I did the following:

DTI stripped lower
PSA Premium Lower Build Kit
PSA Premium Madness Mid-length Upper
R Guns phosphated bolt carrier
RRA Bolt Assembly.
Already had the charging handle and MI ERS flip up rear sight.
