Budget handgun 24/7 any good?

Taurus makes a good gun and at prices $325-350 there is no real competition. I owned a PT845 (basically a 24/7 with a hammer). Never had any failures to feed or fire it out of about 250rd. I traded it off though. I just couldn't get the gun to shoot well for me. I bought it for $320 out the door, price being the main reason for grabbing it. In retrospect, and considering you already have eyes for other guns, I would recommend saving a bit more and getting what you want.

I now have a Colt Government M80 and a Glock 19 to fill the void. The Colt is a better shooter in 45 ACP. The Glock is cheaper to feed and a better CCW option. It also ends up on target far better than the Taurus.

I've been very pleased with my 24/7 Pro Compact in .45. It fits my hand well, it conceals easily, carries 10 rounds of .4ACP, and has been 100% reliable since new. Trigger is decent, it's smooth but maybe a little long and mushy in DA. Nice crisp reset though.
I had the 24/7 Pro c .45 for years. Never ever had a problem. Eats everything you feed it.

I've shot the 24/7 PRO for a good long time. My everyday carry is a design so very close to the 24/7 PRO that is is like the kindred brother... I carry a Taurus Millennium PRO in .45 every day. Always shoots, never any problems, like the 24/7 PRO. Recently came into the yard (live in country) and there was a possum near our quonset shed. Got out and the Millennium PRO is not a target shooter but I killed the possum in quick order. No issues at all. I have shot on my own range many times and can verify that it neither jams nor does not fire when I pull the trigger. Accuracy is decent for a shorter barreled .45 like this. Weighs a bit less than my SIG SP200 in 9mm as well, which is an EXCELLENT shooter for accuracy!

Even SIG forums will have the occasional comment about one of their pistols not "worth a dam" but I really think you may find that in ALL makes and models of anything made in firearms. Don't discount a pistol by the very few that happen to crop up and post here and there. You really do NOT get the whole picture because of the one person that posted some negativity about a certain pistol/firearm there are probably 5,000 very satified shooters who never posted a single word... anywhere.

+1 on the ruger sr40. These are really good guns for the price and their customer service has a great track record if you need it. Maybe check out a walther ppx as well, it's getting pretty good reviews. Taurus makes some good guns but I think where they suffer at is quality control and customer service. Hit or miss is a direct result of quality control and I heard horror stories of people sending guns in for service. If you get a good Taurus it will be just as good as anything IMHO, but if you get a bad one be prepared for the worst. I have a Taurus revolver that's been great since day one by the way

Taurus has had a tale of woe very similar to that of S&W products. They, like S&W, went through a period of "new gun of the week", changing Models and options too fast to actually sort them out. Nobody ever seems to remember S&W in the 1970's and 80", when they were like that. Doesn't make it untrue, though, even to the fan-boys. They had problems with the barrels in the M&P series, fixed them, and went on with it. They had problems in the X-Frame revolvers, as well.

The ENTIRE industry has been hot-or-miss since the surge towards buying guns hit it's peak. Many times it's the buyers who are the issue, as they haven't a clue as to what they bought, and seem unable to read the Owner's Manuals. Ask Ruger about that with the SR series gun's introduction.

I have returned Colt, S&W, HK, and Sig pistols and revolvers for defects, but never had that problem in the 14 Taurus guns that I own. Some of them are from the era of Interarms importing.

I've shot one in .45acp at two different range sessions. At the first session, the gun worked OK, but had a very long trigger pull I really didn't care for. At the second range session, for some reason the gun started getting a variety of failures to feed and eject. Overall I was underwhelmed by that gun. Extra mags are hard to find and pricey, BTW.
