I received the new grips for my Bud's Model 10 Police Trade-in I had refinished by S&W.....Finally all together and looks pretty fair I think.

I also dove into my first Ruger revolver and first .357 Magnum. It looks pretty solid from what I can tell. Locks up real tight and should be a fun shooter.

Pictures of them below.

WOW !!!!!!!
HK, that 10 is AWESOME !!!!!
I don't have the words....

And the Jeep [GP]
Well, it's absolutely one of the finest
shooters I have/have ever had.
I love the front sight style.
And one of MamaOzo's favorite also.

That 10 is beautiful.

How did you hide that serial # on the GP....
it looks like it never was there....

Thanks, I can't wait to shoot them both.

I used photoshop CS6 content aware eraser to hide the serial number.

Why'd you have to go and do that!!!!!

Just got me a model 10 and I'm working on getting used to it having some "character flaws" and resisting the urge to send it off for some shiny, new skin. It's a great shooter, just has some skin issues. I've got a thread here http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=683614

I had checked out your previous thread but thankfully it didn't have any photos of the finished product. Then, you start THIS thread! Pix and all!!!!!! :banghead:

Now I'm weighing between breakin' open the piggy bank and buying a new shade of dark blue for MY mod. 10.

Did you have Smith do anything with the internals, or did you just get it reblued? That Model 10 sure does look nice.

They checked it out and re-blued it. They replaced one part, I forget what it was called, but it wasn't more than $8 as I recall.

It will take 10 weeks C5, does that help?

That is a pretty pair. I set out to buy a Model 10 and ended up with a GP100 just like yours (same prefix and everything), but that Smith is a beauty.

Ugh! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Purdy enough to wait for!

Ya know, I've been thinking that I've got enough guns for one year. Maybe I should spend next year dollin' 'em all up. I've got a few revolvers that I'd love to give a little spit-n-shine to.

Then there's that stainless 686 I still want, and that AR, and...

(this is where I usually resolve to "not worry about painting while there's still room in the safe!") But man, that Model 10 is nice!

thanks for sharing.

Those GP's are built like tanks. They may not be the prettiest pistols out there, but there are few other revolvers that will outlast one.

That Smith is just gorgeous. It's practically shimmering through my monitor here, and the grips just enhance the overall look. A nice score to be sure.

There are some wonderful craftsmen over there at S&W. That Bluing looks like what would have come off the line in the 1950's and even nicer than the production revolvers being made today.

I would also like to know where you got those grips?

Ain't nothin quite like wood & steel!

Were it mine, I'd change the grips on that Ruger.
But that there is two LOVELY examples of fine craftsmanship.

Now I have to back to church for sinning.
That coveting thing gets me all the time.

HKGuns - thanks for posting some outstanding photography.

That model 10 is stunning.

And the GP100.... well... it's a brute. I love those tough Rugers.

Where did you get the grips? Thy look beautiful
I would also like to know where you got those grips?
(I want to know about the grips too.)

Thanks, the grips are Altamont Super Rosewood (Dymondwood). I've had extremely good luck with them, including 1911 grips. They are very responsive and their customer service is outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for grips.

How much did S&W charge to reblue the gun?

$235 not counting the Fedex cost to get it to them and that wasn't exactly cheap. (Overnight required by policy.)

Were it mine, I'd change the grips on that Ruger.

I agree with you 100%, I just ordered a set of upgraded grips for the GP100 from Altamont!

HKGuns - thanks for posting some outstanding photography.

Thanks, and you're welcome. It is all in the equipment and I'm blessed to have great Camera gear as well.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I would certainly do it again, even though it isn't exactly being fiscally responsible. However, I like restoring old things and making them like new again. I do the same with guitar amps and rifles. One of my favorite projects was taking my late great uncle's 1917 that was semi-sporterized and returning it to its full Military glory. I get a lot of satisfaction out of things like that.......It too is pictured below the 1911.

This is a bit off topic but here is one of my 1911's wearing Altamont grips.

Not revolver related, but thread related....
