Most folks ,"as mentioned" for home defense or carry on occasion, look to spend as little as possible. To them a gun is a gun. If they want a large caliber, they would just assume a hi-point 45 will do the job at less than $200 dollars, and they can buy 2 handguns and a shotgun for $600 dollars.
We will spend that on 1 gun, and get a higher grade weapon. Most who just got involved in this economy are looking for value, and decided to make the plunge into the world of firearms. Give them time and they will gradually see the differences and move up along the chain as they see the upside to having better quality guns.
There are a few in there that are pretty much ok, for their price. Next year you will probablly see more 40 and 45 as they get used to the weapons. But there are a few good ones in there, None that I own. I think Glocks ,scare a lot of folks, more so the salespeople, by telling them how easy they can shoot themselves. I know a lot of inexperienced shooters that have a fear of them, and 1911's, because the hammer is cocked and locked.
