Top 10 guns sold BY BUD'S in 2012, really?

It isn't a list of the best selling guns in the country. It's a list of Bud's top sellers. Guess what, the got a bunch of old surplus Nagant revolvers, Mosin rifles, and S&W model 10s and they shockingly sold what they had in inventory. Kind of a meaningless list.

Considering AK variants are the most prolific firearms in existence, the fact that two variants have made it into Bud's top ten sellers doesn't shock me by any means. A rugged dependable, high capacity weapon easy on the wallet in both initial cost and ammo appeals to many people for a variety of reasons. I'm sure if other retailers like Centerfire Systems, Classic Arms, J&G Sales, etc, various AKs would certainly show up among their top sellers as well.

Rugers are good affordable guns that will protect you. Ruger did well with the P Series automatic pistols like the P89, then the LCP, and the bigger polymer auto pistols. The GP series revolvers again are affordable and quite a bit cheaper than Smith and Wesson.

Yeah. It's a buds list. Price point is the leading factor. Most of these are guns people would buy without needing to see before you buy. These are the cheapies consisting of surplus and great deals on common shooters.

two observations
Price does matter and people must believe in the SHTF scenario

That's what I kinda figured too... BUT looking at this article, it really does appear that Ruger is top dog for handguns...

...and Remington is still tops for shotguns.

Man, that article contains so much data, it's wonderful... The whole background check thing is an eye-opener. We are way ahead of last year. Probably due to an election year thing.

It's from one single online retailer correct? Logically the best sold are the guns they get the best deals on through their distributors.

I think that top 10 list is just the guns that Buds sold. Which says more about the people who buy guns there than it does about the top ten best-selling guns in the U.S. :D

Ruger was the number one U.S. fire arms manufacturer in 2010, outpacing all other U.S. firearm manufacturers by an impressive margin. This was the third year in a row that Ruger achieved the top ranking.

Ruger has it’s finger on the pulse of the American gun market and even though hardcore gun guys may not be passionate about Ruger products I believe there’s enough casual gun owners and newbies who are and more than willing to buy Ruger stuff.

Rugers may not be what the cool kids use, but I'm among many who are very happy with 'get the job done guns'. I spent $389 on my SR9c. It carries effortlessly, it's easy to be accurate with, I can control it with either hand during one handed shooting, and it cycles very reliably. I would look like a connoisseur if I carried an H&K P2000 SK, but bad guys don't care which brand you carry, and there's no such thing as "more dead".

That's pretty much how it goes with their revolvers, the Mini 14, pocket pistols, hunting rifles, etc.

Ruger is the Ford of firearms.

I think it is more than newbies and the causal owner, especially in the revolver world

I think a major key there is

"Top 20 Best Selling (in stock) Guns of 2012"

I guess this shows that Bud's has a big following for the (to us) oddball cheap surplus guns.

I have one gun safe stuffed with Rugers.:D Why buy a Colt for big bucks when I can get 3 Mini 14 Ranch Rifles for about the same (and did), and I can shoot just as accurately with them as the Colt guys can with theirs. Proved it to them over and over.:D

The Glocks, Springfields and Smith and Wessons have too many models if they all only had one 9 one 40 and a 45 they would all be at the top Ruger does not have 7 different LCP's or 12 different full size 40's.

People are buying AK's last election they bought AR's :D

Mosins sell great I was selling them for 135.00 with 100 rounds of ammo.

People always ask about the Rem 870, 4 out of 5 times they will buy a Mossberg one simple reason $$$$$

I think that Buds also will appeal to a buyer that can not find a less expensive gun in stock at a LGS - there just can not be that much profit in Mosins or KelTecs - even a decent percentage markup is still a relatively small number.

Sadly, it seems that H&H failed to break the top 20 at Buds this year :p

All I can say is that list is not accurate for society as a whole. It may have some selections that represent typical trends, but it has some that clearly do not.
So don't take the rankings too literally.

Nagant Revolvers are most certainly not widespread in the United States, even though they are #4 on that list.
Rather that probably means many people that are buying such a unique firearm are going through that store for it to be that high on the list, while they are likely purchased rather rarely overall in society.

Thread title is rather misleading.

Bud's top sellers and "top guns sold" are two entirely different things.

Funny that people get all offended when their precious Glock isn't on a list. I'm sure this isn't an accurate list, but Buds just doing a little marketing. Don't worry, I'm sure a Glock is on a list somewhere.

There sure are a lot of Rugers on that list.... I don't trust it to be an accurate list at all.

I agree and suspect it might be just that retailers own list.
Heck it lists #1 Mosin-Nagant M91/30 7.62X54R Very Good Condition and Used S&W Police Model. So are we to assume other Mosin-Nagants being sold are not in that same condition. That would sure be a lot of them being sold. The same is true for the "used" S&W.
