Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of April! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance is back to our typical range of 25/50.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, sub-.20cal. chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both divisions (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image no. 2 (B&W target) in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire one shot at each bug (feel free to color them to increase visibility). Each bug is scored as two points for a direct hit (body), and one point for winging it (any hit to the antenna/leg/wing).

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: See image no. 1 (color target) in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire one shot at each bug. Each bug is scored as indicated on the side of each row.

If you enjoyed this match and want a bit more challenge, or just compare your rimfires to their big brothers, check out the concurrent Centerfire Match using the same target at double the range.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated; all submissions due before April 31st. ;) Now get out there and nail some of those pesky bugs!

That was a lot of shooting!!! I shot two targets. I didn't get the results I wanted, but it was a lot of fun. :) :)

37 points by my count.

It was a very nice 65 degrees, but had some 5 to 15 mph winds. It varied a lot and was giving me problems, but it was good practice! My other target was a 32, but I center-shot that smallest bug on it.

Shooting my Mark II - FV - .22 (with newly added cheek rest)
Mueller 8-32X target scope
Wolf MT ammo

I also wanted to show off the cheek rest I made for my new Mark II. I would like to replace the stock at some point, but I had all the parts (expect the bolts) already, so this was almost 'free' for now.

:uhoh: Yikes, you're right 4x4. That is what "The Mav" said... I guess I should read closer.

I just looked at the targets and assumed the smaller targets were for optics. We'll just have to wait for Mav to clarify if that was his intent. I think those tiny bugs on the colored would be tough with irons, even from 25 yards...

Thats what I thought when I looked at them too but I looked at the centerfire match and they're the same over there too.

Very good shooting anyway, Gregaw.
And nice workmanship!

Many thanks, Maverick, for conducting these matches!
I know you're extremely busy and yet still find time to run these matches for everyone.
Your efforts are very much appreciated!

Gregaw,

What thickness of Kydex did you use for that rest and what did you cut the slots with, a router?

My 93R17 has a wood stock so I don't want to ruin it by putting bolts through it, but was thinking of hitting Savage parts up for an Accu-stock and fitting it to the rifle along with a similar cheek piece to yours. That rest looks better than most commercial ones I've seen and as easy as Kydex is to shape, it'll sure beat one of those "lace on" ones!

Jim

It is 3/16th Kydex. It is definitely thick enough. It feels very surdy. As for the slots, I suppose I could have borrowed a router and that might have made nice neat slots. But I was going for slots that looked like they had been made by drunken monkies with drills. It might be a little neater than that. :) But yes, I used a drill.

Oooohhh, drunken monkeys with drills -- I resemble that analogy! Love it when a plan comes together!

Wasn't the color target for irons and the black and white for optics?
That wasn't my intention, but this idiot messed up and mis-labeled the two. Unfortunately the edit period has elapsed so I will have to have a Moderator modify it for me.

The intent was to make the irons a bit easier...I just failed at the execution.

You bet, Caddisflied! I might have other obligations, but for the most part, there's no place that i'd rather be. :)

As far as slots in the Kydex cheek rest (which doesn't look bad IMO); I don't know what sort of tools you guys have at your disposal, but I would find a decent way to chuck it up in a cross-slide vice (probably best to rotate the table) and use a drill press topped with an appropriate sized end-mill.

:)

:l

LOL. I shot the B&W target yesterday with my Savage at 50yds. Guess I'll have to try again!

My apologies, sixgunner455; I wouldn't have changed it had I known prior to having Art correct my error.

oh, it's no problem. Really. No worries. Not like we didn't have Gregaw doing it the way you intended, after all. Just means more shooting.

And honestly, I didn't feel like I did all that well, so this will give me more opportunities to succeed.

Besides, it's more shooting. Can't complain about that. Shooting's fun.

Glad you feel that way, I don't want you to feel alienated by my action; that was certainly not my intention.

:)

Not sure about how I scored the 50yd target but the way I read it it's either a hit or a miss with a hit being the score on the margin. If so here's my 62, unlimited/magnified. Remington 597 17hmr from a front rest/rear bag.

And here's my 10pts on the 25yd iron sights/unlimited. Ithaca .22lr singleshot of of a front rest/rear bag.

That ain't too shabby for a Remmy 597 autoloader in .17HMR. I had one in .22LR and it wouldn't shoot that good at 25 yards, let alone 50. Gotta admit, the .17HMR is one of, if not the most accurate rimfire cartridges out there.

I had a .17 Mach II also, but a buddy of mine was looking for a good rifle for his wife to shoot and I sold him the older Mark II in .17MachII along with my stock of Eley ammo for enough to really stock up on the Hornady 20 grain .17HMR stuff when the new Cabelas here in Wichita had it on their "grand opening" sale. Picked up 2K rounds.

Looks like I'm gonna have to work at it with the 93R17 this month!

Jim

Oh wow, I really messed up scoring mine. It's nowhere near as good as 4x4's target anyway. Oh well, I'll try again later!

Damn, nice shooting so far guys. I was hoping to get in on this this month but my printer is on the fritz and I can't access this site from my computer at work.
would somebody be willing to send me a couple copies of both targets? I would be more than willing to pay the postage.

RBH44: I'd be glad to print and mail you copies for it. No worries on the postage, 'pay it forward'. Post or pm how many of each you want and your address. I'll try to have it in Monday's mail for ya.

Centurian22,
Thanks I appreciate that. I'll send you a PM with mailing info.
