Buggin' Out Rimfire Match:

Forgot to mention a few brief news items earlier.

First, Photobucket changed their editor, so I have been unable to make modifications to the leaderboard. If anyone knows of a workaround or other hosting site (that allows you to modify the photo whilst retaining the same link) please let me know.

Secondly, I will be unavailable (camping trip) for the first few days next week, so the final tally and beginning of the next match will be postponed for a couple of days. Should be up and running by or before Wednesday...as long as I don't get mauled by a bear. ;)

OK, I was finally able to get out to the range this afternoon. The weather decided to cooperate for a change so I took advantage of it. It was sunny but on the cool side
(48*) and winds were up around the 15 - 20 mph range. It did calm down a bit while I was shooting though. Here are the results. I'm gonna have to do this more often as this was my third and final attempt at a decent score!

Pretty sure I scored 61 counting only body shots and 67 counting the ones with leg hits. Optics off the bench with a sand bag puts me in unlimited.

Nice shooting RBH44! Good looking target too ;-P

Maverick have a great camping trip! Look forward to the leader board tallies and next challenge upon your return.

A question to any and all who may be following this thread, any recommendations for consistent accurate .22LR ammo? I've got plenty to shoot for now but with getting active in these monthly matches I'm looking ahead to my next order of a few hundred to maybe even 1-2k rounds. Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Centurian22

Best advice I can give you is do not buy 1-2K of any brand ammo until you first try it to see how your rifle likes it.

Wolf Match is decent ammo at moderate prices.

I havent been to the range in three weeks, hopefully I can get in on next months

Centurian22,
I would agree with Orlando. I wouldn't buy quite that much ammo unless you know for sure that thats what shoots best out of your chosen gun. Even then you will see slight variations in lots. The match ammo is the most consistant. It runs a little high in price but it's worth it if you get into serious competition. I'm currently out of the match ammo that I bought so I shot CCI standard Velocity LRN on this target with pretty good results.

Good advice guys thanks, I would definitely try to test out ammo before buying that much. However, I don't do any competition (aside from here) and price / good shipping deals usually dictate my Rimfire purchases. I believe I'll probably go Federal (of one variation or another: American eagle, or champion ect.) I've seen some for less than $2 per box of 50 on CTDirt. Also need to try and save up to get some .308 for my new baby (savage axis Xp w/ 3-9x40 and camo stock).

Results:

Alright guys, I made it back in one piece, and have the results ready to go...

1st: KSCCHTrainer (75)
2nd: RBH44 (67)
3rd: Texas4x4hoe (63)
Honorable Mention: Gregaw (37)

Non-Magnified/Target:

Non-Magnified/Sporting:

Well done, shooters! The new match should be up and running in an hour or less.

:)

Maybe there will be more entries for the sporting classes next month but by default or not I will gladly and modestly accept my first ever shooting competition victory. As always a great thanks to Maverick for the time and effort, really hope I get shore-side (I work on a boat) in time to enter the May challenge. Congrats to all of the other competitors and victors.

Thank you for the kind words, Centurian22; it was my pleasure. Things are starting to slack off a bit as of late, so I might even be able to join in this month's myself...I'll be mighty disappointed if i'm not able to.

:)
