The original post was filed too low, partially due to trying to clean it up, so I cut a dovetail, and made another front sight.

Here's the Target I shot last night.
First two cylinders were loaded as follows:
32 Grains Goex FFFg
Cabelas Wad
Speer .454 Round Ball
Lube over balls
The first 6 shots were all over the place, with the very first one going into the dirt well in front of the target. The second 6 shots tightened up a bit.
The last cylinder was loaded as follows:
25 Grains Goex FFFg
NO wad
Speer .454 Round Ball
Lube over balls
These shot tighter yet.

Oh yeah, 15 yards, one handed grip.

Looks like It's shooting a bit low and to the right. I'll have to shoot more groups, to make sure it's not the "idiot behind the trigger".

Whadaya think of my Lube Syringe? One of the wife's horses needed painkillers for a sprained ankle and a cut on a leg ... I horked the empty 'butte syringe and cleaned it up. Works good, had a stopper and a hardstop (to keep from accidentally discharging some lube). Now, if I only had another one or two, I'd be set! I ain't gonna hope for another injury to a horse, that makes the syringe really, really expensive!

You can use the horse wormer syringes also. and horses need to be wormed at least every six months....Wifey Hint...Wifey Hint.

Just keep the used syringes.

Horse Wormer Syringes ... Every 6 months

Actually, the wife worms the horses every 8 weeks. The local Fleet and Farm store didn't have the usual brand on hand, and the syringes aren't gonna be to functional for my needs.

The nice features about the 'butte syringe that I mentioned before are really handy ... but I forgot to mention the by far outstanding feature - the plunger ram is not made of rubber (which I have found to degrade when in contact with grease/lube for extended periods), but of a soft, flexible plastic.

Panacur ( fenbendazole ) comes in a syringe like the one you're using for lube.

Got a tube of it here in front of me, that we use for deworming our lizards. It'll probably expire before we manage to use it all, since the whole tube is for a 1200 lb. horse, and all 4 of our lizards together only weigh a couple of pounds.
We ordered it over the internet for less than we could get it locally.

Oh well... At least I know what to do with the syringe now, instead of just throwing it away. :D

Nice lookin sight there Wwalstrom , I`ve been useing the horse wormer syringes a long time ...pass them out to all my horseless pards ....sure makes lubeing over the ball easyer , and at the price of the brass one Dixie sells ...it`s a no contest ..... It`s so hot here in Ms . I have to add about 20% beeswax to my crisco to keep it off my gun leather ...
Sure would like to have a front sight like that one , I`ve got one that shoots a little high with the 250gr bullets in my conversion cylinder , going to have to put a taller sight on that one ...

Good lookin sight

but I would like one simular to Keith's, a barrel band and sight, just seems right!
perhaps it could incorporate a better keeper for the loading lever, ever notice the lever is the only thing that rattles? Anyone here try this?

I live out in the country, and all I had to do was ask my local vet if they had any of those syringes empty. They told me that they usually throw them away after use, but, they will keep a few for me.

So... just check your vet!!

Nice job on the dovetail and sight.. Real nice job... What did you use to make the dovetail?

What did I use

I cut the initial slot with the narrow side of a flat (bastard?) file. To cut the dovetail, I bought a cheap $3 needle file set, and ground the teeth off of one side of the triangular file.

Hint. If you use two layers of duct tape on one flat of the file you do not have to grind the teeth off. That'll give you 3 sides to rotate to later. You don't ruin a good triangle file either.
