Range time with my 1860 Army

Med,
I'd be cautious too.
Messed up my left eye a couple years back, still usable, but it's made me a little more appreciative of my right one. :)

Mike,
Being a charter member of the Lazy R'Us Club, Utah State Chapter, I have never fired a conical revolver bullet in me life.
I did go so far as to mould some for my Ruger several years back, but they're still sitting safely stored away in the garage. :)

Why did you let me buy a gun with a fast twist?
Denis

Craw- You got a 60 Army with a brass front blade?
Mine's steel.
Denis

Steel blade, steel backstrap, brass frontstrap/triggerguard.
Denis

We talkin' 1860 Army, right?

Steel front blade, either thin bluing or supposed to be case colored.
Definitely ain't brass.

Cimarron Uberti from last year.
Look at their website photo.
I can't recall seeing a 60 Army with a brass front blade.

Mike's seen it, he had it there for an upgrade. :)
Denis

Ha ha !!
You didn't specify!!! Lol

I'm not exactly sure when they started with the fast twist barrels (around 2011?) but it dawned on me as to why you may be having a problem with higher power charges. I'll look and see if I have some I could send you.

This is why my Dragoons use the Kirst conversions so well!

I didn't pay much attention to the sight, I'll check the Ubertis in the shop.

My old 1981-dated unknown-manufacture 1860 Army replica has a steel front sight. Looking at it right now.
Need to check my new Pietta 1860.

Mike,
No need to send me conicals, if that's what you meant.
I won't use 'em. Refer to above "Lazy R'Us". :)

Craw,
I looked at photos of Ubertis on Cimarron's site & the Uberti site, both clearly show dark front blades.
Honest.

Correct or not, that's what Uberti appears to be doing.
Denis

Yea, you're right Denis, I looked again on the Cimarron site and with the close up feature they have on the 1860 Army and the front sight is definitely not brass.

I think that's a disadvantage. I love that brass front sight it shines nicely even in lousy weather.

It WOULD be a nice contrast, and I need contrasting sights for field use nowdays.
At the range, I use the shooting glasses that let me focus on the sights.
If I ever shot with bare-naked eyeballs in the field, might take me a week to get that front blade aligned in the tiny rear hammer notch.

My serious field carry guns do have contrasts of some sort.

Mike- whatcha think about opening up that notch when it comes back to you?
Denis

OK, we'll put that on the list. :)

And I STILL want to see you make the .36 actually fire.

My date code on my Uberti 1860 Army is so faint I can't make out the letters. I think I purchased this in December 2011.

I just went to the Uberti web-site and they are all steel front sights, they are definitely not brass anymore. Except for the '51 Navy still has the brass bead in front.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!!! :what:

Denis have Mike swage in a replacement brass front blade. Your eyes will thank you. :)

We'll see. :)
Probably a good idea, IF you can get it to correct shooting as high as it does.
Can you fabricate a taller one, Mike?

Denis

I might want that for my 1860 Army. Mike can you fabricate a taller brass sight that would look exactly like an original Colt blade only taller?

As of now with my current sight I have to place it deep in the 'V' notch hammer sight to get it shooting level.

Taller front & wider rear would make the gun much more sightable. :)
