I've been mulling this over a bit, and this thread isn't about zombies or tactics but about what guns would make it in the duffel bag. I counted in this season, excluding handguns, some 5 shotguns and 2 rifles. What long guns and pistols would make it into a single big bag meant to arm others in your group, but all be carried in one bag when not being used. Would caliber matter for gun selection, interchangeability between multiple long guns or between say carbines and pistols? Most of the guns in the show are sporting guns or common home defense/ccw guns. I'm curious what 5-7 long guns and what pistols you guys would put in the bag and why. Just a reminder, this focused on the guns, not the zombies.

Well the only guns on the show were taken from the police dept. Not many and wrong mix for today. With the proliferation of m-16 loaners from the feds to law enforcement you would think at least one would have been in there. As well as one of the many civilian AR-15 style rifles plus the amount of AK clones and SKS carbines out there you would expect at least one or two in the bag. Not to mention lever actions and more pistols. Ammo seems to not be a problem for them. Never see any boxes and the bag only held guns. another hollywierd mystery. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the show and let the small things slide.

Now what I would like for this is most would be centered around the AR-15 erectorset. Goal is for 10 lowers with two different caliber uppers each and one .22 kit each. 13 mags per rifle for centerfire and three for rf. Now there are many opinions and choices in ar calibers. I suggest for the ZAW that the main upper be in 5.7X48. 50 round magazines and lots of bullits that don't weigh that much or take up lots of space. For when you run out of these you can have a 5.56 upper and scrounge ammo easier. As your last resort .22lr conversion. All of these calibers are suitable for zombie control and most two and four legged varmits. Don't get me wrong I would also include two mid caliber long range guns M1a/AR10/PSS and a couple of 12/20/410 shotguns. The shotguns would be used sparingly due the weight and bulk of the ammo. They would however be easy to scrounge ammo for.

Whew, That was just the short form pistols and edged weapons later. Just remember Headshots only count. As long as you see the threat at shooting distance a Zombie is easier than a live human to stop.

Cheers,

ts

The only gun I need for zombies is my Boomstick.
Zombies better be real or this thing was a waste of money.
Cut to 19 inches.

I actually thought for a small-town police force the weapons were pretty realistic. Rick mentions on the show in the pilot that "A lot of it (the weapons in the armory) has gone missing. Later, in the third episode he mentions that there were over a dozen handguns and 700rds of ammunition. Whether it would all fit in the bag is another matter. I do agree that the sks and mosin-nagant rifles would be a staple for most people.

A Mosin-Nagant will fit in a duffle bag??

That's news to me!

Must be feeding that duffle bag some of those Extenze pills.

Fill it up with Hi-point firearms. In the show, the zombies simply ignore and walk past the bag of guns because they don't know any better. In real life, people will walk past the bag of hi-points because they do know better.

Oh that's just great.

Now you got the zombies And the zombie ATF Agents after you too!

Hmmm my bag of guns would be...a couple ar's, a couple shotguns, a hunting rifle, an old style lever action, a .357 revolver, a few glocks, and ammo....but "IRL" that'd get heavy real fast. So spread the guns out...except for Dale...cause he causes too much drama....

oh and a crossbow

I know you said this didn't apply to zombies.. But it's so much more fun that way! Mossberg 500 camp, M1A socom 16, AR15 with 5.56 and .22 uppers, and a suppressed MKII for the lone walker, in case your Bowie knife was out of ammo.

see that's why I'm leaning towards .357 for pistol and carbine, with 20 gauge for shotgun. figure 500rds in .357 and 200rds buckshot. Actually not too bad for a group to carry. 7.62x39 would be another option, but ammo would be less to carry and guns/ammo would be harder to come by. .22lr works, but I sure wouldn't trust my life to it to survive as the only rifle.

I know its hollwood, but absurdity can sometimes generate practical ideas once you stop and think about it.

Oh my God, RC you just made me laugh myself to tears. Zombie ATF agents. Oh my.

And, is that REALLY an SBR'd Mosin Nagant? Or a clever photoshop? I can't imagine someone doing a tax stamp on a cut down Nagant. Really. I just can't.

One person might be able to tote a trio of 1911's, a trio of Tommy Guns and something like a streetsweeper 12 guage plus some ammo but you would get tired fast.

Alternatively, one could try TT-33's plus Stalin's Banjos (7.62*25 rounds weigh a lot less than .45). Hi-Powers + Stens or Schmeissers (or Uzi's/MP-5's for all you hip modernists)would be somewhere in the 9mm middle. For the long-ish guns, option for single shot at a little range might save some rounds and full-auto or burst option for when they are crawling into your tent....

Or, if one is actually talking true mindless zombie types, why not use a flame thrower for any quantity over about three and your favorite handgun for backup?

Now I just need a benefactor to fund me acquiring all of the above for "practical" testing

A bunch of Ruger 10/22's and thousands of rounds of ammo, along with a few Mossberg 500's or Rem 870's. Headshots with .22's will be enough for walkers or squirrels, and the shotguns to defend yourself and take larger game.

I have a bag in the closet that I keep for just such occasion. Got it on clearance for $10.

That's just hilarious!

Ruger 22/45
Some .22 rifle with a large magazine capacity
FNH FiveseveN
FNH PS90
Remington 1100
SIG Sauer 556

I think that covers all needed bases.

Without being cut down any, the M-44 Mosin-Nagant without bayo extended is kind of short as 7.62x54 rifles go..and with the right ammo, you COULD set the z's on fire....never mind HOW I know...I just know  :D

1891 mosin nagant..... not the 91/30 THE 1891.... When u attach the bayonet it will instantly keep all zombies outside a 50ft radius and can be used to hold up a circus tent JIC.

a few 10/22s, 22/45s, a few glocks in 9mm, .40, and .45 plus some M9s. definitely my double barrel 12ga a pump 12 my ak-74 clone and an ar-15 ..... maybe my .30-06

oh and ill borrow a 105mm from work..... did i mention my duffle bag is a deuce and a half?

Silly exercise, IMO. That's what trucks are for. If you end up on foot, you didn't plan well.

I shall leave no gun (or round of ammunition) behind. My "duffle" is motorized :D

Look, we don't do zombie threads (with one notable exception), we don't do TV/movie threads, we don't do SHTF threads. One thread that's all three doesn't make it better.

And I'm pretty sure we've already had our "pick the 5 guns you'd take with you..." thread for the week.
