Bulgarian Makarov

Last year I bought a Russian Mak made in 1983. I can understand why Makarovs have such a loyal following. The only handgun I had fired prior to the Mak was my Dad's old .22 Magnum Ruger some 20 years earlier but after firing a few magazines worth of S&B FMJs through it I was regularly grouping within 3" of the target center at 25 yards. The Brown Bear ammo works fine, too.
A good, solid gun at a cheap price.
Just got some Silver Bear HPs. I will give those a try next.

BrockSamson: the first 9x18 ammo I shot thru my makarov was Silver Bear hollow pt. They work really well. They have a good fit and finish on them.

I shot some Wolf ammo monday. It's really a step down in terms of quality. The surface of the wolf ammo is not very slick and loads with difficulty. It fired ok, no problems from the Mak.

I still have some of the Silver Bear 115 gr. hollow points. Those have always functioned well in my Maks and seem to do some pretty serious damage to various targets in my back yard testing.

The reason why its still a favorite by the Spetsnaz and former Soviets. Small, light and accurate to bear. I really need to get me a Bulgie one day. I have E German and Russian commercial both are fantastic and accurate.

Congratulations on your new Mak :D
I really enjoy my EG Makarov, it has been very accurate with Federal 95gr fmj and brown cased Braunal 95gr fmj. and the pistol is more accurate and fun to shoot since I began reloading for it.

I'm not at all surprised at the number of people who own Makarovs and like them. What's not to like?
My Bulgarian is 100% reliable, built to last, accurate, and pleasant to shoot.
I did put a Pearce grip on to replace the thumb-rest grip it came with.
Mostly I shoot Brown Bear and Silver Bear FMJ for giggles, but Hornady XTP's cycle very well in mine.

Mine is loaded with Barnaul 95 gr HPs. I guess these are no longer available as of the present. Silver Bear Hps dominate the supply chain, i miss the days yea...

I have 2 Bulgarian Maks. Once is completely original with the full flap holster that holds a spare mag and cleaning rod, and the other...well it wandered into the workshop one day when it escaped it looked like this:

Anyone out there who wants to get rid of their used conversion kit for $100? Or, maybe I could just get a new one if I start saving my pennies now. :)
