Burgess repeating shotguns?

Has anybody here ever handled one? I've been mildly interesting in them for years, but not a lot of information is out there these days. Haven't found anyone with personal experience. It's a shame that no company is making a reproduction--just seemed like such a neat action to me.

For those who haven't heard of the Burgess, it was an 1880's pump shotgun where the slide was the pistol grip on the stock, instead of the forend. Most models could also either takedown or fold.

Marshall Willams, the writer not the Moonshiner, likes the Burgess also. He mentions that Burgess has more gun patents than JMB.

I recall seeing one. Not that common. And like JMB designs, it had tight tolerances and lots of machining. Probably prohibitively expensive to make now.

Still, an interesting idea.

Isn't that great? My old Shooter's Bible has a photo of a guy firing one of those, with almost a mag's worth of shells in the air. Apparently it was some firepower for those days.
