Burmese pythons establishised in South Florida and expanding range rapidly

I once saw a photo of a good sized alligator with a python coiled around it somewhere.

Anything that is willing to take on an alligator is something I want to stay away from.

Are these considered pest in the state? Are they legal to kill as long as you stay within all the laws? I don't hunt, but might be willing to exterminate some of these since they are ruining the ecosystem, and destroying the balance. Plus, I hate snakes.
