Bush on AWB renewal

Continued from above.

Not sure what's going on.

Q But basically what the Karl Rove statement is, is the politics of politics that will ultimately give the NRA what they want. They don't want the assault weapons ban --

MR. FLEISCHER: April, this is, to the President, this is about a promise he made, a commitment he gave because he thought on substance, this was reasonable. Now, I'll leave politics to others, but that's the President's position.

Based off of that Q&A, it seems like Bush is saying one thing and hoping for another.

So he sells us out after all. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He's not an RKBA man anyway; he's an oil man, and all that comes with that.

I think what Fish 2 said makes a lot of sense. GW realizes that the bill will fail and is throwing his ostensible support to it to garner perks from his former detractors. Sneaky, huh? Did you ever think you's see so many dems support the RKBA? Personally, I don't think GW would make a pimple on his daddy's butt, however, he is better than the alternative. He needs to get with LaPierre and explain what he's doing and let the NRA put the word out. As was stated by someone else, it's the final score that counts, not how the game was played.

I have a term for it...."Political Suicide"

He needs to get with LaPierre and explain what he's doing and let the NRA put the word out.

Then, its no longer a secret and the opposition can counter attack.

If he [Pres.] was really against the AWB renewal, why not just keep quite about it or say, "...we are still studying it"?
Instead, the guy just keeps inserting coffin nails!

not to worry, Citizens

We are in good hands with President Rove. Just as we will be when the next illegal alien amnesty also buys the GOP some additional votes. Relax, it's all been run through the computers. And don't forget, it's the "compassionate" thing to do.:D

Sure, GWB is "foxy" (as in El Presidente Fox?). We'll see, I guess. But underneath it all it sure looks like he goes where the votes seem to be, after a lot of hard number-crunching. And he likes to be out in front of the curve, which would explain his support for Greenspan (huh?) and, even stranger, Cheney. My own view of Bush is that he is what 25 years ago would have been called a mainstream Democrat and those who believe he's a conservative or is really pushing any kind of conservative agenda need to pay more attention to what his policies really are and where they are taking us.

Why is it that Bush can tough and principled on something like Iraq but cannot or will not make a case for the 2A rights in the AWB situation? Is it because he can't use the word "compassion" to defend individual political freedoms?
