Bukijin--What are you planning to do w/the rifle & 'scope once you have them?
If for hunting medium game, such as deer, either 'scope on a Rem 700 in .308 will do the job just fine. Either 'scope will be clear in poor light, durable, great optics. I'm glad to see that you are NOT planning to put an "el cheapo" 'scope on the nice 700.
I have a 4200 and a VX III on rifles--great 'scopes for the $$.
As to which of the 2 to use, get the one you can get the best bargain on--with a choice between these 2, you won't be sorry either way. Nice problem to have!
Of course, we'll need a range report, with pictures, when you have the 'scope all mounted, tested, and sighted in.
I have a Leupold MK IV PR, Leupolds "budget" MKIV, which I'm told is basically a VXIII with target knobs and mil-dot reticle. It's been a fantastic scope.
And though I don''t own a 4200, I've bought two 3200's this year, and am very happy with them,as well. From everything I've heard and read, the 4200's are fantstic.
Both scopes have great (lifetime) warranties and customer service.
As smokey said, I'd also go with the one you can find the best deal on.
11 votes for Leupold, 10 votes for Bushnell Elite. I guess that means my research was along the right track, but you fellas didn't help make the choice any easier LOL.
I looked through both scopes and both looked good to me. I ended up buying the Leupold VXIII 2.5-8X36 because I got it a little cheaper and I realized I had my heart set on that scope anyhow.
Earlthegoat - thanks for the kind words but I have found that THR is an excellent firearms resource so I'm just following advice I have read here.
Smokey Joe - yes it's a hunting rifle - but one that can hold its own at the range as well I hope. I'll be happy to post some pics and a range report - probably take a couple of weeks though.
Thanks everyone for their advice.
