It's already all paid for, i'm just waiting for the little guy to arrive atmy FFL.

The full-size pistol version, so all it needs is to be registered and i can put a stock on it to SBR it.

truly sweet...

I just had to gloat:D

I hope you like your new purchase.

I know the ad says it's not an old Bobcat clone, but the seller is Special Weapons, is it not?

That would make them one and the same...Hesse is alomost a swear word here.

the rifle hasn't arrived at the ffl yet,

and yes, you have to send in the forms and get your stamp. yes... i know.

its not going to happen right away, i want to make sure it runs 100% first.

Yeah, isn't "Coharie" Todd Bailey's wife's maiden name or something like that?

eric - I hope your gun works well!

Once registered as a pistol, always a pistol yes.

Unfortunately, to add a stock or vertical fore-grip legally, you must register the pistol as an AOW (Any Other Weapon). This is a $5 tax stamp, not a $200 one.

Depending on where you live, you may be SOL though. No AOW are allowed in Michigan, for example :(

Id love to know...

If this thing works and is painted like all the other Bobcat, SW, etc copies with a can of Krylon....

Sorry, I don't trust a business that has to change it's name every few months to stay one step ahead of the mad customers. Aren't they now Red Rock arms as well?

Sorry. Would love one of these clones, but not from these people. I would not trust the gun to not explode just from being put together by an untrained dyslexic chimp.

Adding a fore-grip with no stock = AOW = $5 tax stamp
Adding a stock with or without fore-grip = SBR = $200 tax stamp
If you do a Form 1 and add a stock to your pistol to make it a SBR, you also have to engrave your name, city & state on the reciever in order to comply with BATFE regulations. You have to engrave your info onto the reciever, because you are the manufacturer of the SBR.

Thanks for the correction. AOWs are specifically off-limits here in MI, so I've never really seriously considered one.

SBR's may be legal here, but since I'd rather spend the $200 on ammo, I haven't researched it very thoroughly...I was just parroting what has been repeated here so many times before, albeit incorrectly :(

yea the 200 bucks might wait a while for the SBR rigamaroo.

like Riktoven said - id rather spend it on ammo.

but!

the SBR MP5's , even clones, look soooooo cool :D

Got It!

I'll be posting the pics tonight.

Now i'm waiting on a test-fire from my dad, so i know for sure its 100%.

YES!

To construct an AOW it is a $200 tax just like a SBR. It is $5 to transfer one on a form 4.
& You may not put a stock on an AOW. That would make it a SBR & thus you would be in posession of an unregistered SBR.

He said he bought one from Coharie not Bobcat. :)
But yea bobcat is now red rock (correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is not to hide from the customer but to avoid a lawsuit over the name), but coharie is the new special weapons. :)

Mine functions 100% & 99.8% of people would be hard pressed to tell that it's not a real HK product & note the discrepancies.
The vast majority of the new Coharie products have been very good products aside from a slightly subpar finish (can't say it's really mcuh worse than some other manufacturers these days like FN).
Try the product before you bash it.

soooo right

FWIW I'd get the paperwork in soon. I found the gun not particulary suitable or fun to shoot in pistol form, I only shot it enough to confirm its functionality.

here it is

i know its been forever since i posted, but a deployment lasts soooooooooo long... :s....

finally i get to see what i paid so much for!

since this picture was taken i've added the Front Rail system, BnT mount and a cheapo red dot that works pretty well, and the SBR paperwork is being finished when i finish up my army time here in Fort Hood.

NOTE:

it fires amazing. not one hickup, using American Eagle 9mm, and the factory mag it came with. i bought some HK LEO mags, but didn't get a chance to try them out...

fired approximately 60 rounds. only had a short time to try it out last time i shot it, and this time it was just too dang cold out to go shooting for me.

They are great, I have a ca89k and its a early one with a 2 digit serial number, let me tell you it works more reliable than my old hk94 i had!

What if you remove the stock on a SBR? would you be in possession of a unregiserd AOW???
