Should I happen upon a substantial amount of expendable cash for a new firearm, I would run (not walk) to the nearest dealer and buy that new "KRIS" 45 acp.

I agreed with a lot of people here. I needed a Shotgun.

Note the past tense.

I Got the Coach Gun!

I'm going shooting on Wednesday, I'll report back.

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

I am not well versed in AR-10 manufacturers.

Which should I look at?
I got a rock river lar-8 and love it. FAL magazines are still pretty inexpensive compared to the DPMS/Armalite magazines that most of the other AR-10s use.

I'd get a nice AR-15 and a Stoeger coach gun (or just a good ol remington 870/mossberg 500). Should be able to do both for under $1,500.

It's hard to make a suggestion in the "other" category without knowing specifically what guns you already own, what your interests are and where they might lie, etc. But I'd recommend, if you don't already have one, a Walther PPK -- and one made in Germany, not a USA version from Interarms or S&W. Few guns' designs have held up as well through the years, few guns look as elegant, few guns have that "cool" factor that the PPK has in spades.
Of course, if you've already got one, then go for a P.38 instead -- for the same reasons.
