Buying a new pistol tomorrow

The M&P does not require a trigger pull to disassemble.

I went with the M&P9c. Picked up a full size mag and an X-Grip as well. Really looking forward to getting out to the range with it.

When it came right down to it the MP fit my hand better. I liked the look of the gun better. And I knew I really liked how I shot the fullsize. I figure there can't be much difference. The gun has great sights. I'm extremely happy with my purchase right now. The Ruger was a little cheaper, it certainly had a nice trigger, it came with a full size mag and spacer, and I do like the bi-tone look.

When it came right down to it, the Ruger felt like settling. I had looked at M&Ps for a long time, and it was just what I really wanted.

It sounds like you already knew what you wanted.M&P's are great guns IMHO.If your looking for validation for purchase i personaly think you already have that with the many good reviews out there on the net and here at THR.

As far as pullling the trigger on XD's to disassemble;I do safety checks with alll my guns before cleaning.....Im assuming you do the same?

Sorry read your post too late

S&W's best pistols are the Walther line. For just a little more the P99C deserves serious consideration. M&P is nice weapon have put hundreds of rounds down range but the P99C for my hands has better ergonomics and has a superior trigger.

That's ok vaherder. I never would have gone with the Walther over the M&P. It doesn't look as good to me and I have absolutely no experience with Walther anything. Although I have no doubt it's a great pistol.

Does anyone have any strong recommendations on defensive ammo? I have a couple of boxes of PMC Starfire 124gr. I was considering just going with that since I'll need to run what I carry through the pistol and I already have 40 rounds, but saving 40 dollars is not worth depending on an inferior round (if indeed that is what starfire is).

Just a little piece of plastic that slips over a fullsize mag. I really like the versatility it offers. I imagine that X Grip will get the most use on the range.

It's one of the reasons the Ruger and MP9c really stood out to me

Nice pistol...

Sorry, just checked on the forum today and saw your thread.
I have a SR9c, AND an M&P 9.....I like them both, either gun is excellent.
I do find myself carrying the SR9c more--it just fits me a bit better, and I like the versatility of it.
I believe the trigger is a bit better on the Ruger. BOTH are VERY accurate handguns!
So, like what you got, practice with it, and you'll be fine.:D

I like Speer Gold Dot in 124 grain +p, but I also just got some Federal HST 124gr +p to try out. They have a great reputation. Any major brand JHP in 124gr +p, or 147gr will be a fine choice as long as it functions in your gun.

I picked up two 50rd boxes of Winchester 115 gr Silvertips for 30 a box. Seemed like an ok deal. I'll see how my gun likes it. Anything horrible to be said about these rounds?

If you're going to carry it with the compact magazine, make sure you shoot it plenty with that one (at least 50% of your range time) to make sure you're comfortable and proficient with it that way. JMHO

ETA: Consider a 147 grain bullet for a defensive round. They lose less velocity out of the shorter barrel.

I will absolutely be shooting the gun with all three magazine configurations.

It seems like most of what ive been able to find has said that lighter bullets are preferable out of shorter 9mm barrels for defense.

Your going to really like the M&Pc as I have an M&P .40c and am amazed with it, so much so lately I have been shooting it in IDPA type combat shoots with it. Its funny as I should feel at a bit of disadvantage using a short ( 3 1/2" ) barreled pistol, when most are using a 4", 4 1/2" or 5" barrel gun, but it shoots so well I usually finish in the upper half of the competition, so I don't really feel out gunned. BTW unlike some of the other shooters, I really compete with my carry gun. LM

Put a 100 rounds of FMJ and 50 round of JHP through the pistol today with all three mag configurations. I love this pistol! The only problem is the gun shoots low and to the left. Is there a way to adjust these sights?

You may be looking to early as to where you hit. If you're right handed that's where I've seen them go. Or you could have to little finger on the trigger. I would bet the sights can be drifted too.

I guess Ill work on my "follow through" next week. I've spent the afternoon sorting brass. I swept up a couple ammo cans full of empties. I don't reload yet, but I'll be well stocked on brass when I start.

Thank you for pointing that out. Ive been doing some dry firing and it is quite clearly my fault. I've got to fix it.

I am not normally a trigger jerker. This is concerning.
