Hello all,
I just took a shotgun 101 course and now I'm into shotguns. My friend has a Benelli M3 Super 90 and I think it is a good reliable gun. But I thought i'd be different and try the Model 11-87 Police. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Welcome to the BB, Nippy.

Here's a suggestion, do not buy a shotgun yet.

First, look at and handle different ones. Include Big Four pumps as well as autos. Shoot some if you can, and then decide.

Try all the different aspects of shotgunning. The clay games are a blast(Literally) and they have you use up lots of ammo in short time frames on small targets. Great for focus and expertise.

And mine the Archives here and at TFL. A treasury of good info awaits.

HTH....

Thanks Dave,

I went clay shooting with my friend before and I used a Benneli pump. He was using a 11-87 to shoot trap and he was using re-loaded bird shot. People were really nice so they let me shoot all of their guns once so I have a feel for the Trap Guns as they call them.

The thing is I do remember that my friends 11-87 didn't have any problem with the Bird Shot (we ran a couple boxes thru it) but I don't think his version was the 11-87P.

I'll keep asking to shoot shotguns like you suggested and I'm looking for review stuff on the web for the 11-87P. Anyone know of any good links?

George,

Congrats is in order! I was present at the shop when Nippy put down the $$$ for a brand spanking new Rem 11-87 Police with rifle sights. Good choice, dude!

Me, Nippy and the Duke took the tactical shotgun class together. Nippy used a borrowed 870 and came in second in the class finale - King of the Hill shoot off. The Duke came in first with a Benelli. We all saw how much faster semis are compared to pumps, so we're sold on that platform. I'm leaning towards the 11-87P for myself too. :p
