Buying single rounds of ammunition?

I was thinking of you making a list of what you want (with an explanation) and posting it at the range. Cross off the ones that you get. Don't suggest that you'll pay, let them bring it up if they want to. Most common cartridges will probably be for free.

I know it's annoying that I have two rounds left over when I shoot a box of 50 for my 6-shooter. And now I got a 7-shooter which is even more annoying.... one left over. Grrr.

They ought to make a 7.071-shooter.

I love that last half of the comment lol!!

OP, check out VA Gun Trader's forum. You should be able to find local folks that you can probably trade or deal with. That would save on the shipping.
Heck, if you were in SoFla, I could give you one of each of the common rounds that I have. 308 Win, 30 Carbine, 30-06, 32 ACP, 45 Colt, etc... I can probably scrounge up 50 BMG from a buddy. I can even give you the 44 Mag, I have some even though I don't own any guns for it.
And before someone says it -- no real desire to own one. Well, maybe a lever action.
So check locally, you should be able to get some.

The place you are looking for is: Ammo One http://www.ammo-one.com

"We sell single cartridges to cartridge collectors and "Hard to Find" shooting ammunition.

"

I've purchased several collectable cartridges from them, in particular one loaded .450 Magnum Express so I had a sample to recreate ammunition.

Go to the reloading section and ask there for dummy rounds. No powder and either no primer or a fired primer. Less hassle to mail too. I've done it before for a few folks.

I'll give you a single round of any type of ammo I have. Send me a PM with an address. Most of what I own is pretty generic such as 30-06, 9mm, 45 etc. but I have 300 WSM and 10mm which aren't commonly seen. Between friends and family I could get a few others such as 6.5 Creedmoor

The guys are telling you right about where to look. Our local pharmacy has in the last few years amassed a nice collection from customers donations. I even donated a dummy 20mm round I had gathering dust. Shops that sell reloading supplies would be perfect if they would allow you to put up your wanted list.

Oh for the old days, like the late 50's. We could go to the hardware store and buy a few shells to go hunting with. I picked up empty pop bottles to get some change so I could go hunting many times.

Maybe that is why I do not just blow up ammo as I remember how hard it was to get when I was a kid.

Like Bullseye said, try posting in the reloading section, asking nicely for guys to assemble you a dummy round (who needs powder and primer for display?). You could make it worth their while by paying small shipping and / or adding something to the "pay it forward" type thread(s). Or offer to take a picture of the finished product, it might be nice to see - a THR crowd-sourced cartridge display.

1) Buy one 20 round box of all the calibers you seek
2) Assemble 20 single-round collections in cheap picture boxes from the swap-meet
3) Sell 19 of these for 2X what you paid at next swap-meet
4) 100% Profit (plus the single cartridge collection you kept)

I want to buy single rounds of various calibers for a collection. I do not want to buy 50 rounds of 50 cal bmg. I just want 1 or 2 max. Same with S&W 500 magnum ammo etc etc. I just want 1 round of each.

Is this possible? I mean someone has to do this somewhere. Buying boxes of ammo to have 1 round in a glass case is a little ridiculous

I'd just ask around and spread the word. I believe most people would pony up a cartridge for free for something like this, unless it's an exotic or hard to find round. Or expensive.

Heck, I'll share ammo at a gun range in the camaraderie between shooters.

Wow thank you very much. Pm sent

A minor suggestion for your collection...

Exposed Lead will eventually oxidize (corrode) into a white powder. Consider coating any exposed Lead with laquer or something to prevent this.

I have .45 Colt, .22 WMR I could contribute. I have some more common rounds, too. I see you're in VA. If you're in the Hampton Roads area, I could meet you and give you one of everything I have. Send me a PM.

You can buy single cigarettes at a lot of mini-mart's.
