Very nice example of German overengineering.

If you say so. I also have a BYF 44 bayonet scabbard and blade #s match but nit to this rifle. Some place in an old box I have the 44 K98 leather pebble grain ammo pouches.

Really not area and I'm not expert. Mostly I was into Enfield #4 rifles.
 
I see the late-war stamped trigger guard doesn't use lock screws. Other than the earlier milled trigger guard, I don't see a lot of difference. I remember seeing an advertisement for a BRNO K98k with the stamped winter trigger guard, too. While I've always had the impression that K98's (and VZ-24's as well) and #4 Enfields were built like tanks, I've heard some experts... whether real or imagined... say they're not. I'd still rather have either of those than most new rifles currently offered.
