C-H 502 Micrometer powder measure with pistol micrometer mounted on Pro 1000 turret - http://www.ch4d.com/products/equipment/powder-tools/502

While I was trained to reload on Dillon 550/Lee Pro 1000 and currently enjoy my 650 with case feeder, I am also a fan of C-H and Lee Precision products, essentially the last two remaining "Made in USA" reloading equipment manufacturers who have ignored the allure of "globalization" and continue to manufacture all their products in the USA.:thumbup::thumbup:

C-H products are built to commercial/industrial grade use with lifetime warranty and over the years, I have bought new and old products like C-H 205 single stage press, 3 and 4 station "H" type presses, 502 micrometer powder measure and recently swage kit (My final choices came down to Dillon Super Swage 600 or C-H swage kit and decided to go with C-H swager due to hardened steel swage punches and press mounted operation) - http://www.ch4d.com/products/equipment/priming-tools/psk

I decided to buy the C-H 502 micrometer powder measure after Los Angeles Silhouette Club member conducted extensive comparison tests and C-H 502 produced lower standard deviation than most other powder measures including Harrell - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/c-h-502-micrometer-powder-measure.761239/

For my 10 drop measurements, powder measure was initially tested without powder baffle but using powder baffle produced more consistent drops and single powder baffle was used for the test. After hopper was filled with powder, 20 drops were made which were poured back in the hopper then drops were weighed until they settled. 10 consecutive powder drops were weighed on American Weigh Scales Gemini-20 digital scale which was verified with Ohaus ASTM Class 6 check weights down to 2 mg/.03 gr (Gemini-20 won't detect 1 mg/.015 gr check weight).

NOTE: I initially set the powder measure to 4.1-4.2 gr Promo (which I use with 9mm 115 g FMJ) and kept the same setting to compare density/weights of other powders. I plan on adding additional pistol/rifle powders to the list (Using rifle micrometer for rifle powders).

Alliant Unique (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .24 gr

Unique is large flake powder that I had difficulty metering in Pro Auto Disk often with .3-.5 gr swings. C-H 502 powder measure did much better with .24 gr variance. I recently bought a pound of Unique to use as reference powder for accuracy comparison testing. Definitely plan on using C-H 502 for Unique, especially on the new Pro 4000 press.

  10. 5.32 gr

Alliant Red Dot (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .22 gr

Red Dot is large crinkly flake powder that meters with .2-.3 gr variance in Pro Auto Disk. Once again, C-H 502 metered with less variance.

  9. 4.72 gr
  10. 4.60 gr

IMR Target
(Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .22 gr

Target is medium size flake powder that metered with .2 gr variance in Pro Auto Disk. Target has so far produced the smallest 25 yard 10 shot groups out of 17" JR carbine and I plan to do comparison accuracy testing with Sport Pistol.

  10. 5.96 gr

Alliant Promo
(Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .12 gr

This was a surprise. Promo used to look like Red Dot with round flakes added but in recent containers of Promo, they are all round flakes. I have noticed more consistent metering in Pro Auto Disk from .2-.3 gr down to .15-.25 gr variance. C-H 502 metered Promo with .12 gr variance, same variance as W231/HP-38!

  10. 4.08 gr

Winchester W231/Hodgdon HP-38 (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range .12 gr

W231/HP-38 is flattened coated ball powder that has been my reference for metering with around .1 gr variance in Pro Auto Disk.

  9. 7.14 gr
  10. 7.16 gr

Alliant Sport Pistol (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .08 gr

Sport Pistol is cut extruded powder like N320 but cut shorter and metered with .05 gr variance in Pro Auto Disk. As anticipated, .08 gr variance from C-H 502 confirms metering qualities of this powder.

I believe they are going to sell a ton of this powder.

C&H makes good stuff, so I have no doubt their measure is a quality item that will do well.

I have a CH powder measure I use for rifles. Day in and day out it gives me more consistent drops for powder than my Redding.

A year or two ago I bought a Lyman Gen 6. It beats both but I keep my conventional drops for times when the power is out.

Alliant Bullseye (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .08 gr

Bullseye is small flake powder and has metered very well in Pro Auto Disk down to 1.5 gr with .1 gr variance with this $1 mod - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/working-diy-micro-auto-disk.741988/

  10. 6.44 gr

Alliant BE-86 (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - .14 gr

BE-86 is small flake powder (like Bullseye/Power Pistol) but more dense and has produced very accurate loads in 9mm and 40S&W enough to replace WSF I have used for decades to produce higher velocity full power loads. Like WSF, BE-86 is flexible to produce accurate loads at mid-to-high range load data.

Lovex D032-03/Shooters World Clean Shot (Micrometer setting at 4.535): Powder charge range - . 10 gr

Clean Shot is fine ball powder like Accurate No. 2 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-different-labels.797388/page-6#post-10727894

Bullseye match league winning member ljnowell replaced No. 2 with Clean Shot as his match powder - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/looking-for-aa-2.796752/
