Although I received my license weeks ago I got the info packet yesterday. After perusing the information including the laws (I now know what the mean by "throw the book at you") I got to the "list". Impressive to say the least. My question is there is a section listed as Automatic weapons and has a list of all sorts automatic weapons. Do these fall under the tax stamp rule or can I have one shipped to my door. Not that there are a whole lot of these out there for a reasonable price, but I am curious.

My other question is there a site that sells some of the guns listed other than the typical M1's and Mausers. For the amount of firearms that qualify I am disappointed at the sites I have found thus far and limited selection. I do understand some of them are on the rare to extinct list, but wander if I am missing a site.

Yes, as a C&R holder you can have a C&R Machine Gun shipped right to you without having to go through a FFL MG dealer in your state.

You still have to pay the $200 tax on the gun. The big expense, of course, is the gun itself. MG's are expensive enough as-is, and generally C&R MG's are more desireable and more expensive then other MG's. There are several reasons for this: One is because C&R guns tend to be the interesting military and collectable guns (like a Thompson) so they are more in demand and more expensive. Another is that the fact that a C&R holder can get them direct makes them more appealing. And yet another is because at least one state (Minnesota?) will only allow it's residents to own a C&R MG's and only if they have a C&R license.

Pretty much the cheapest C&R MG you'll find is a Reisling. You can still get one of those for about $4,000 to $5,000.

Like everyone else has already said, you can have it shipped directly to you but you still need do the Form 4, fingerprints, passport photos, CLEO sign off, and $200 tax.

Having said all that, the day that a real live machine gun shows up at your door and all you have to do is sign for it, well, it is pretty amazing! I know profanity isn't allowed on these forums. But you can probably think of some of the things I said when I cut the tape on the box and looked down at my very own MG staring back up at me, and no dealer had been involved, it just showed up in a plain cardboard box, LEGALLY!!!! It ruled!
