A first time poster with all this rational information.Thank you, sir.
    You have steadied my day.
That is ,of course, until certain elements will almost certainly rise up and make this flammable thread catch fire again.

Well, I submitted a request for a ruling (in writing) to the ATF's Firearmss Technology Branch and will hopefully see how they feel about it this month. I've read many differing opinions (some of which were statements made by ATF that contradicted other statements by the ATF). It's likely the answer will vary depending on what day of the week they get the letter and what color underwear I have on.

So if you buy a C&R gun and then modify it in a way that makes it Non-C&R, do you have to log it out of your bound book? And then back in if you return it to it's original C&R eligible state?

Yes, if the modification is permanent. Logging it out to yourself everytime you take the bayonet off a yugo SKS to clean it would be a little extreme.

Presumably. Though again, I wouldn't have logged it out to myself if the modification weren't somewhat permanent.
