Am wanting a good IWB holster for my XD9 sub compact. Any preference on these two? I also have four the standard XD9, could I buy the holster for it and use it for both of them without any real downside?

I cant speak for the ctac but I do have a CB ST for my P30 and like it alot, very comfortable. If you go with the ST you CAN use it for both, as said not sure bout ctac although I think they are very similar. CB also offers one thats a little bit smaller with only one clip but if your gonna be using it for both the sub and full size I would stick with the ST ( 2 clips will distribute the weight of the gun better )

I was looking at both of brands of holsters for my Glock 19, but I decided on the MTAC over the CTAC due to the larger leather backing. The reason I decided against the Crossbred is that it leaves the muzzle of the firearm uncovered. I could see myself snagging it somehow under stress.

I've owned both Comp-Tac and CrossBreed holsters. I now only own CrossBreed. The Kydex on the Comp-Tac holsters seems to crush more easily and make it harder to re-holster your weapon.

Somehow my last post submitted before I was done, anyway, Yeah I guess the ctac and mtac are closed on the bottom where the CB ST is open allowing use for both weapons (nice feature i think). Re holstering is a breeze with the kydex. As said above, some may have issues with the muzzle being exposed, WHY ? Ive been using my ST for well over a year and never an issue, snagging, whatever, and I practice drawing from concealment pretty much every time I go to the range. Not trying to sway you one way or another, I could really give two s***s which holster you get ya know. Just giving my thoughts/opinions, good luck :D

"I'm a fan of my Comp Tac holster and love that for different guns all I have to buy is new kydex and not new holsters"

Im a fan of my super tuck because I dont have to worry about getting/shaping new kydex ! Mine is for the P30, If I get the P30L, it fits, simple as that. Same as the XDsc and "regular" size XD, whatever that means

I chose the comp-tac because of the wait time. CB estimates 3-4 weeks. I had my Comp-Tac in five days. Very comfortable and very nice quality. If I want to change from my XDSC to my EMP I'll just order a Kydex body.

I would imagine either would be fine but I'm pleased with my purchase.

Have both, I like the ability to switch out the Kydex to fit another pistol on the CompTac but have not yet done so, as I carry the same CZ 75B in .40 day in and day out.
Both work fine though, and combined with a quality Beltman horsehide product make even a heavy gun comfortable all day.

I like the look and lines of the Crossbreed way better....so that is what I ordered...no time with the other brand bit my crossbreed has been great...changed my opinion on IWB carry in fact. I ordered mine for a 4" XD9 (which also fit my 4" XD45) then I traded the XD45 and Got a G21SF pica rail...I just re-heated and remoulded the holster a bit...it was actually pretty close dimenionally (odd huh) and a little flare added to rail area to clear the gawd awful piccatiny rail. So I still use it...now my XD9 has been retired for my sig pro 2022 9mm -I'll have to order on for it next I guess. It won't fit or re-work with enough material to clear it so I moulded it right back to my G21SF...the joy of kydex! With a decent heat gun and some patience (and being careful not to overheat the material) it can often be re-shaped and remoulded to a similar in size framed/shaped gun. I really do LOVE it! Crossbreed will get more business from us for sure!

I have a Comp-Tac Minotaur for my G22/G27 (open slide version), and recently ordered a Minotur w/ neutral cant for the same guns (to experiment with appendix carry and/or crossdraw). I also have a couple of their mag carriers. Obviously, I like their products.

I used to have a Supertuck for my J-Frame, but I sold them both when I decided to trade the revolver for a pocket auto. I also have a Crossbreed belt, and one of their OWB holsters for my G22/G27. So yeah, I like Crossbreed products too.

C-Tac
More professional looking fit & finish
Multiple tension adjustments

Crossbreed
Metal belt clips, more durable than the Kydex C-Tac clips

Both companies make good gear, and it's hard to go wrong with either one. Both offer a military discount as well, if that applies to you. IMO, C-Tac has a slight edge, but it's close.

I can't speak for the cross breed, but I've carried an M&P in a CTAC for about 2 and a half years now and there's not another Kydex holster that I'd own over it.

Except... :D

...the MTAC, which I just purchased for my 1911. I only have about two days with it so far, but it is the same great quality I expect from Comp Tac.

I'm sure the Crossbreed is a good holster. You'll not regret the CTAC or MTAC if you decide to go in that direction, though.

C-TAC clips are no longer Kydex. They are injection molded polymer.

I honestly wasn't sure what they were made out of, so I took a shot in the dark. Either way though, metal is more durable. ;)

metal is more durable.
Not even close.

You may notice that our Standard Clips have changed. We have been working for a long time to make a polymer clip that is more durable, more secure, and more concealable. Using an entirely different molding process, we've found our solution.

You'll find that the new clips provide a more positive grip on your belt. They are also longer (with more holes) to give more cant adjustment, and narrower, for better concealment. The real benefit, however, is the durability. We have been testing the new design for months on a "clip-testing robot". Until now, our best design was good for 10,000 flexes. This new design went for over 10,000,000 flexes without failure (considered infinite for this type of product). Like any clips, they're not invincible--but they're certainly an improvement.

Were they tested in extreme cold? How about heat? Flexed past optimum, or just the 1/4" or so it takes to get them over a good belt? Tested for load bearing capacity beyond normal operating parameters, i.e., to see what happens if someone tries to rip it off of your belt? Tested vs impact / abrasion? Etc, etc, etc.

I like C-Tac products, and FWIW, I've never had any of them fail. I also don't have anything against polymer components - I own several polymer framed pistols, and a Magpul MOE AR15. I even trust my long guns to a Pelican case when I transport them. But metal is still more durable. If it wasn't, they'd make the entire Glock out of plastic, instead of just the frame. ;)

Anyway, sorry to threadjack. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

CLIPS:
I'm in the middle about the clips.
On the one hand, I've managed to bend an old (cutout cross) CB clip, CB sent me a new complete set of mounting hardware after a polite EMail abnd it was the new (embossed cross) clips, which I haven't managed to damage in any way at all. I have one embossed in reserve, because only the front clip needed repair, plus I have the repaired old clip in reserve, some time with some wood shims and a vise got it back in working shape.
On the other hand, I have a Tucker magazine carrier of similar design to the CB ST or comp-tac's products and it has shaped Kydex clips. Twice I've managed to bend the front clip in the exact same way I borked a CB clip, and twice I've had that clip back in shape with a hairdryer and ~5 minutes' time.

Each time I damage a clip I notice it after hard outdoor work, I think I'm doing it when I plop into a car seat and the clip snags on the seatbelt ... but as I only notice it after, all I'm sure of is that I occasionally kill a clip as the final note of a really long and exhausting day ... one can be fixed on the spot and one needs more time and/or spare parts.

SHELLS:
I chose CrossBreed, and am quite happy with that choice for a number of reasons. I like having two carry-ready guns loaded up and in the holster, so I can't imagine swapping shells. How hard is it to swap them out, anyway? Are they labeled or do you just have to know which is which?

OPEN BOTTOM:
I'll take open with a properly flared opening, please ... closed means no swapping in a longer gun and it means more dustbunnies will collect.
Open means a longer gun will fit (imagine officer's and government -size 1911s, for example) and the dust may get in more but it falls out just as fast. Also sweat will evaporate faster, I keep my leather backers in good shape with Obenauf's leather preservative so I just wipe them out with a damp rag whenever I clean the pistol, they'd need more drying time if they were closed, I'd think.

WAIT TIME:
Honestly CB has gotten me my gear faster than their FAQ would indicate three times so far, I think they're just being pessimistic to avoid overshooting their promised delivery date. If you're getting a common model's mold, wait time is ~2 weeks, in my experience

I haven't had a Crossbreed but I have carried with both the C-TAC and the M-TAC. I couldn't stand the MTAC. I can see how the leather is marginally more comfortable but it sacrifices retention heavily. The CTAC has much more retention, adjust-ability, and if you do a lot of range time you will appreciate the positive "click" when holstering and the quick release when drawing. The CTAC is infinitely more adjustable and a little moleskin applied ot the back makes it very comfortable. I prefer an even thinner kydex but the CTAC is a very good holster in my opinion.

so if I go with the C-tac I would have to order for the fullsize in order to carry both due to the closed bottom and the CB I could carry either due to the open bottom. The sub compact will get a lot more carry simply because the grip is shorter. It has been so dang hot I have carried little more than my browning .25 in my front pocket. It is not very confidence inspiring but it is better than being 'naked' I do like the idea of just being able to buy new kydex for the c-tac if I decided i wanted to carry my CZ or any other pistol I may acquire. There are just too many good choices.......

The C-Tac has a "slide" version for many manufacturers. The one I have will fit any Glock full size, compact, or subcompact in 9mm, .40, or .357 Sig.

I'd love to see the super tuck that will use one kydex unit to holster my P226, P229, MP40, PF-9, and LCP. If they really do make such a product I'll buy one immediately.

I had a C-Tac that's hooks snapped in two under normal use within 18 months of buying the rig. I called them for replacement and they said "we only cover it for a year".

End of story, and end of debate.

As would I, and thats not what I meant( not 20 different makes/models). Maybe you should re read my post. P30/P30 L will work, G17, 19,26 will work, XDc/XD full size will work. Ya get it ? Maybe it also does with the ctac but, as I also stated above, I dont have one/ no experience with one. But since you do, by reading your post, why dont you elaborate for us.
