Cabela's policy

Recently I was at the Cabela's store in Kansas City and bought some Berry's bullets among other items. When I got back to the hotel I realized I had picked up the wrong weight of bullets. I went back to Cabela's to exchange them and was informed that they don't do exchanges or refunds on powder, primers, ammo or bullets. I can understand the powder, primers and ammo but bullets for reloading that are still sealed in the box??

They eventually exchanged them for me since I had never returned anything there before. Has anyone had this reasoning explained to them regarding bullets by someone from Cabela's? I sure wasn't going to try to get the 18 yr old customer service rep to try to explain it to me. I got the impression it was each individual store's policy regarding exchanges and not a corporate policy.

I would imagine the policy was based on a previous bad experience from a customer who wasn't as honest as you. If someone used a couple bullets out of the box and then sealed it back up again and took it back, the next person who purchased the box would have been short bullets, etc. Most policy is based on those circumstances, or something similar.

Hope this helps.

Fred,

I can imagine that too. I ruled out the possibility of liability as in contaminated powder or primers. I've actually bought opened boxes of bullets from their Bargain Cave where a few were missing out of the box.

My guess (and its only a guess) is that their corporate insurance policy prevents them from accepting ammo returns and because their returns department employees probably aren't the brightest bunch it might be too difficult for them to easily comprehend on a return whether a component part of a cartridge is ammo or not. As a result, fearful for being sued, they just say no to any ammo returns including returns of component parts.
