Cali-legal semi-auto?

Seems to be some misunderstanding.

Off List AR-15s can be built two ways.

Method #1 is to remove the pistol grip. This gives you an AR-15 with detachable magazine, basically identical to the Kel-tec except you can interchange the upper, which opens the door to a lot of swapping not possible with the kel-tec.

Method #2 is to permanently affix the magazine. This means welding or riveting or some other magazine attachment which cannot be undone without disassembling the rifle. It also means splitting the rifle open to load. But you do get a pistol grip out of the deal.

Personally, I'd go with method #1 in preference to a kel-tec.... but it does look kinda goofy. Then again, I think all AR's look goofy.

#1

Ed, I agree with you that Method #1 is preferrable. However, Method #1 is also only possible if you have decently long fingers. I have embarassingly small hands. To better describe, when I fire my P228 in DA only the very tip of my finger is pulling on the trigger!

Just a comment that may affect some of the answers...

My buddy, who still lives in California (I used to...BUT NO MORE, NO MORE!) asked the local police if it would be legal for him to have an M1 Carbine. The police chief said sure! As long as you have a ten round magazine welded in it!

So, he keeps his treasured WW II M1 Carbine out of state...:scrutiny:

well

M1 Carbine is perfectly legal -

only if it's the standard kind, not the one with the folding pistol grip stock.

Personally I want a BAR but they are RIDICULOUSLY expensive and there aren't any 20 rnd magazines lying around.
