Can anyone identify this Wards WesternField .22?

This is a great-shooting little bolt-action .22 with a 7 round magazine. I was hoping to find a peep sight for it, but before I can do that I need to figure out who actually manufactured it. I already spoke with Vic Havlin at Havlin sales and he confirmed that it is NOT a Mossberg, even though it looks a lot like one. Note the mounting holes for a scope (?) and the dovetail slot near the left rear of the upper receiver (for a peep sight?). There is no serial number, just a little number (I think a "10") inside a circle just forward of the receiver. Any ideas? Thanks.

Uh, couldn't find one. Neither could my gunsmith.

The model number should be stamped on the barrel close to the words "Western Field" stamped on the left side. The Western Field .22 Bolt rifle was made in 7 different model number variations from what I can find so far. Take off the stocks and look over the barrel very carefully. The model number and possibly a serial number will be stamped into the barrel. If the rifle pre-dates 1960 it may not have a serial number on it at all.
If you can take pics of all the markings on the barrel and possibly the trigger group we should be able to help you out.

Run a search on Google or Yahoo for a "Western Field .22 bolt rifle" and it should lead you in the right direction pretty quickly.
Don't use BING - it censors it's search results to fit Microsoft's political beliefs. The results will be smaller by far than either of the other search engines.

Westernfield firearms were made by Savage, Stevens, Marlin, Springfield, Kessler, Glenfield, Noble, Iver Johnson and Colt. Not all were .22's, of course. To be sure you need the Westernfield model number. Try looking under the stock.
"...no serial number..." Not required prior to 1968. Your GCA of 1968 made them mandatory.

Took it apart and looked carefully and there is no serial number and no model number. The only additional number I found was a "5" on the bottom of the bolt.

22 model inquiry

I believe that I have the same rifle, with identical markings.....trying to find a scope and or peep sight makes it hard not knowing the model....any luck in discovering more info on this rifle?

Weaver N type do not seem to fit.....d&t holes are 1.65" apart on center

Did you figure out what your rifle is yet? A picture of the whole rifle might help. It could either be a Savage/Stevens/Springfield or a Marlin/Glenfield.
