can having a foid card prevent you from getting a job?

Believe me, that border into Kentucky is only 45 minutes away and looks better all the time!

If my entire family wasn't here, I'd be gone a long time ago. :)

The real solution to this problem is to move out of that dump called Illinois. Michigan or Indiana or, and I shudder to say this, Ohio would be far better.

There are times when having a FOID could be beneficial when job hunting.

Some years ago when interviewing for an engineering position, my wife was asked this: "This job is stressful. What do you do to relieve stress?"

"Well, I like to read." (Not a wonderful answer) "I like to take my dog for walks." (Not a wonderful answer) "But when I'm really stressed I go to the range and practice. I find pistol shooting to be very relaxing." Good answer! The all male interview team could then see her as fitting in. She got the job.

BCCL..... Come on down brother!!!!!!! There's room for some more gunnuts in KY.... All is welcome ;)

OH-IO

We're not quite Az or AK but there have been good improvements. We dont register Pistols, wait to but anything, register, or have FOIDs. Compaired to some of the states in the neighborhood, were doing well, and improving. We have Must issue Concealed Carry. A recent Constitutional Amendment striking down City gun bans (Still working on Cleveland). Our State Constiution has a very directly worded right to arms, "The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security; but standing armies, in time of peace, are dangerous to liberty, and shall not be kept up; and the military shall be in strict subordination to the civil power."

Here in Tennessee, the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper put up a website where you could type in a person's name and find out if they had a pistol carry permit because they felt it was info that people had a need to know (one of the reader comments in support of it was that it was a good thing so the reader would know who to shun). I typed in my name and got back my name and zip code. They used to post street address, but evil demon gun nut lobbists forced them to stop. Supposedly after getting the carry permit database open to the public, they were going to do the same for the registered sex offender database, but first things first.

I don't know if there is an Illinois site where the idly curious can type in a person's name and find out if they have a FOID, but given how some people hate guns and gun owners even more than they hate sex offenders, I would not be surprised.

As of now no, it's only available to LEO's and (Dept. of Human Services) when they run certain checks.

Each evening the Illinois State Police Firearms Identification Record Bureau sends the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) a list of
valid FOID card holders and DHS checks the list for any individuals who have been committed to a state hospital for mental health purposes.

I could go on, and on. But how about a lisence for these: (Sarcasm):fire:

A lisence to practice religion or to exercise free speech
If you need A FOID why not permission to operate as a member of the press.

I'm not avocating these things, just applying their logic to other rights to show how crazy this stuff really is!

i had a foid card for many years in IL, never had problem with jobs requiring considerable background checks.

I would still live in McLean county if the gun laws in IL weren't so screwed up

Anything in an employers market can keep you from getting a job.

They want 10 years of experience down here to be a machine operator.

A trained monkey can be a machine operator.
