The way the forms read, as long as you haven't been "judged mentally defective" you should be fine.

that sounds relieving. i thought of something else that might get me denied without a specific law , i am Egyptian ... which is pretty much ( although i dont like to the fact that it is ) Arabian ... Does that sound like a deal breaker ?

The only reason being Egyptian would be a deal-breaker would be if the dealer is a racist, and then I'd recommend another dealer. Look at a few different stores to see if the inventory and prices (as well as service) differ. Some stores will be eager to help out a noob with some tips. Others may be standoffish.

Welcome to the world of shooting.

I believe a dealer can deny you a gun if they wish. Just as any other store could deny you service (for anything: race, religion, sex, you look funny, etc.). I believe anyways - I could be wrong.

That said... if they deny you a firearms purchase because you are Egyptian - they are not the kind of people you should give the honor of supporting their business IMHO!

I'm fairly sure denying you on basis of race would be against the Civil Rights Act... and it would put them out a few bucks, which sadly is probably the part that would actually get them to sell it to you. (On a side note, I don't think terrorists would be too interested in bolt action 22's...)

You seem pretty nervous about the whole thing, and I was too the first time but it's really not bad. You fill out a form that's basically 3 sheets of paper stuck together (one really long sheet) but you only fill out about a page worth of info, they call the FBI on the phone for about 2 minutes, and you're good to go.

Well - not legally maybe but... I'm sure they could say you looked suspicious :scrutiny: It'd be hard to prove if it did happen.

But again - you'll be fine. Enjoy your new rifle, and be sure to share some pics or a range report once you have! :)

about 2 minutes, and you're good to go.

i am not too sure about that , when i was there , they told me there is a 10 DAY wait .

You seem pretty nervous about the whole thing

i am not nervous , i just have a tendency to think up of all the bad possibilities, primarily to get prepared and avoid them.

Forgot about the California thing and I don't know enough about their wait periods to offer any input. Here in Michigan you walk in with money, and walk out with all the rifles and shotguns you want. Pistols are a pain though.

Luckily for us the government doesn't (yet) troll through school records to match them up with prospective firearms buyers. It's a valid question, though. Don't worry about it.

As for being Egyptian, man, you're welcome in this country. We're happy to take (legally) good people from anywhere. If someone doesn't like for what you are, not who you are - go elsewhere.

ah , i guess non of this matters anymore. My dad is not ok with me buying a firearm , he says it is a waste of money and too dangerous:fire: ( in order of importance) , that is what he said when i wanted to get a motorcycle ( i am licensed , got gear and safety course ) , same thing he said when i wanted to learn how to snowboard ( he said its a waste of time too ) , and same thing when i wanted to buy a guitar ( i bought it anyways though ) ..... he doesn't understand entertainment or hobbies .... i guess this explains why i had to go to therapy at a certain point ...:banghead:

Thanks for all your help ! even though i haven't used this forum for a long time , i never got so much help before in such a short time , thanks everybody , enjoy the privilege of shooting :D

Nader, keeping peace with your father is always good. Just tolerate him for a few more years until you're out on your own. Shoot with your friends and keep saving money for guns in the meantime.

until you're out on your own

in our culture this could only happen in 2 cases :

He dies , not a happy thought

i get married , and my wife will be the boss in that case

You are in the USA now. You should adopt the cultural norms here. At least some of them. If you are not comfortable with doing so, perhaps it is best for you to return to Egypt.

But there is also the fact that your father is unlikely to change much, and respect for one's parents is also a good thing.

Like many decisions in life, it is a compromise between all the various things pulling you in different directions.
