I'm reading about the new Ruger bolt in 357. I would prefer a pump gun, with perhaps a short magazine that doesn't stick down very far. Wood or laminated stock, fiber optic sights. IMI used to make the Timberwolf, but I've never seen one for sale. Anybody else want one?

Taurus discontinued their Lightning clone in .357 Magum. I purchased one new about a year ago and it never worked properly. Blew out .357 ammo cases, but seemed to function fine with.38 Special. Sent it back for warranty repair within two weeks of picking it up, only to be informed by Taurus that they weren't fixing the rifles and they sent me a refund check.

I replaced it with one of the Pedersoli Lightning clones in .357 Magnum, which is top notch.

The Uberti version is very nice too. I have one of their 1873 lever guns in .357 Magnum and it's a very nice shooter too.

There's also the old IMI Timberwolf if you can find one.

How do you load clipped .357 into a pumpgun?

On the subject of .357 mag rifles, can someone recommend a good lever action .357 mag? I may want to pick one up after I buy a .357 mag revolver.
If you are willing to spend the coin, Marlin is probably top o' the heap. Taurus/Rossi/Braztec also makes a model 1892 clone that is pretty good. (I have one in 454 Casull).

I have a Marlin in .45C and a Rossi/Braztech in .357. No comparison. The Marlin is worth the extra cash. My Rossi has been nothing but a pain.

not the new remington marlins. I'd take a rossi over a current mfg marlin in a heartbeat. The old marlins have both of them beat though.

I have heard from someone who recently bought a new marlin 1894 in 357 that the quality was horrible. Had to send it back right out the box becsuse it wouldn't cycle and they still didn't fix the 1/4" gap in the wood to metal. Research around the net shows similar experiences, crossthreaded screws, actions that lock up, etc. I would hold off on a new marlin for a while.

Beware the Remlins. And don't feed them after midnight.

The Taurus Thunderbolt- sexy as it looks -has notorious feed issues from half the owners I talk to. I was this close to buying one, but couldn't ignore the feedback. Then looked high and low for a rossi lever 454.:banghead: Settled for a sexy marlin 30-30 in stainless.

Very happy. Maybe I'll pick up one of the repo lightnings one day, but not the taurus.

That could well be true. All of the Marlins I've had come through here have been consignment items, and older. Pity

That's 'cause they haven't made them in over a year ... despite what you might see on their website. Pity too ... was the only "new" gun I was ever able to make any money on.

You see them pop up once in a while on GB and AA ... but they go high (for good reason)

Sure they do. Had my heart set on a stainless but never see them and just gave up. There's always at least one on GB, but half the time its a blued puma of some flavor. that and Rossi's website doesn't impress me. Minimal contact info, no email contact and the reps I talk to are barely professional.

Decided it wasnt worth the time if they can't be bothered to update their website for two years and weed out discontinued products. :\
