Can you ID this flintlock?

Hi Everyone,
My friend uncovered this flintlock while cleaning out the property of a deceased relative. The deceased relative was a collector of antique furniture and not a shooter, so it is feasible that this could be an original rather than a repro, but of course I’m not certain.

I haven’t had a chance yet to view the item up close and personal yet, so further details are pending (caliber, additional markings, etc.) So far the only indication of markings are the pictured “C12 37217?” on the left side of the barrel forward of the lock.

From looking at these images, does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be?

Looks like a 2nd model British Brown Bess like the type carried during the American Revolution. Show more images. We need the buttplate (top view), trigger guard (bottom view). Flip the gun around and show us the lock plate face. Also state the barrel length.

It could be a repro.

Yes more pictures would help. It's not a King's Musket aka Bess, as the side plate is wrong, and the bess had a fully round barrel, while the photo shows flats at the breech. No bands over the barrels either. The serial number is also suspicious of a flintlock unless it's a really rusty repro.

at first it looks like it may be an original but the numbers are a concern that scream repro. Unless like a long passed buddy of mine, that is a marking by an owner. At one time folks were actually told to put their SS# or driver's license number on items so that if stolen, could be recovered. (a local garage actually has their phone number engraved on all the tools even the little bitty sockets) My buddy got out the letter and number stamps and stamped his id on a bunch of collector guns, pretty much destorying the crap out of their value. Who wants a German Luger with Swastika markings that has an American driver's license number hand stamped on it?

Just throwing out the possibility for the source of the numbers.
