Can you use a AK-74 parts kit on a 7.62x39 receiver/ build?

For starters, the bolt is going to be wrong. I'm also not sure the trunnion opening is the same diameter between a 47 and 74.

Unless you really like the bulgarian stock sets or something else unique about them I didn't notice, why not get one of the 7.62x39 AK kits they have? A quick look showed they have a polish underfolder kit for about the same cost, and some more expensive standard stock styles.

Probably save you a lot of hassle I'd think. I'd think in addition to the bolt issue, the gase tube might be a bit different, and sights might be different slightly for the 5.45's perfomance Vs the 7.62's. Don't hold me to that, just my best guess work. Hopefully someone will come by soon and tell you definitivly though.

The ejector will be different too.

Is it possible, sure. But it's going to take time, effort and money.

OTOH, it's not like you save any money if you're building just one AK. The tools cost more than any saving you'll see.

I'm sure the bolt carrier would work...but For sure not the bolt.

Idea... why not video tape yourself trying to do it... and if it works/fails put it on youtube so we can all see/learn/ & possibly laugh....if everything is ok of course. =)

I have done the opposite, I built a Romanian RPK into an Rpk-74 receiver. Just takes a little more time and lots of grinding wheels.

Converting a 74 kit to 7.62 x 39 is a lot more work than converting a receiver from one caliber to the other. A 74 bolt has a smaller diameter stem than a 47 bolt, so the bolt carriers don't interchange. Much better to just get a 47 kit in the first place.
