canadian gun laws prevent another shooting - NOT!

Doesn't matter - it's all the fault of we Americans for daring to own firearms in our own country.
Will the Canucks ever throw thier rascals out?

Too bad they don't have their handgun ban in place. This could NOT have happened if handguns were illegal.

Here's a chance for our Canadian amigos to speak up, but I am reminded of that huge vote of "no-confidence" which Liberal PM Paul Martin's administration received recently. And now this ninny promises to ban handguns entirely if he's voted back in!

I live in Toronto and was going to vote Liberal until he brought this handgun ban to the table. The gang shootings in Toronto is definately a problem, but instead of increasing jail time for people involed in illegal shootings or hire more border gaurds, they decide to ban all handguns.
So far, Liberals are ahead in the polls at roughly 35%, so if he does get voted in it will most likely be a minority government (again) and it might not pass into law. The Tories (conservatives) would probably be the only ones battling against it.

I don't own any handguns, but I do have a few long guns for hunting, and this would be one step closer to restricting them.

Their has also been some talk about a central lock up for (long)guns within the city.

At least you've noticed, and hopefully in time. This will affect everyone in your country.

Yup. Step one in getting your long guns away from you will be figuring out where they are. This would make that much nicer for them.

If I understand Canadian gun-control politics correctly, not all Liberal Party members in the government are cut from the same mold, so maybe that threatened handgun ban will never materialize.
And I agree that central lockup notion for longarms is, mildly put, pure poppycock. But I think it's still encouraging for you Ontarians that the Provincial government has so far declined to enforce Federal gun registration, for now. (And let's hope they never will!)

Anyway, best of luck to you good folks in Canada, whatever comes out of the election.
