I just scored a VZ24 with an 1 3/16 barrel in 22/250 with a Canjar set trigger. It was built by Southwest Gun Shop who is long since gone.

This thing is a "bench rest" monster and I'd like to get it out of the stock to inspect the whole affair. It seems that the shoe of the Canjar may need to be removed to get the action from the stock.

Any insight as to whether this is the case will be apreciated. I'm not too keen on just diving into it as I'm not sure how the spring sets between the shoe and the trigger body.

I don't know exactly what it looks like, but can imagine that the set trigger is mounted to the triggerguard (not directly "linked" with the receiver).

Set triggers usually "thump" a sear let-off, which is installed in place of the standard trigger.

Thanks for sounding in STOPHEL.

What's happening here is that after loosening the action from the stock, it appears that the shoe is keeping the trigger from rising through the trigger slot in the stock. It seems that the trigger guard is effectively, permanently attached to this stock.

I'll add some photos with tomorrows better light.

The shoe has two slotted micro screws that I might need to remove to allow passage of the trigger body through the stock but I want to see if that is in fact the case before ham fisting this sweet trigger set-up. I think the shoe's spring may be a captured affair but can't find any drawings or info to be certain.

I've added trigger shoes on a couple of my rifles. They are held on by very tiny allen screws. 1/16" or maybe smaller; I don't remember.

I put a regular Canjar on my Weatherby Mark V. Like breaking a glass rod. I put a single-set Canjar on a Ruger 77, way back when. Super good!

The shoe spreads the force out over more of your trigger finger and reduces the apparent trigger pull. Makes a 4-pound feel about like a 2-pound.

Thanks Art. If I back out those two screws, do you think the trigger under the shoe might be captured or should I just say goodbye to it beforehand. It's such a sweet trigger that I hate to fuggle it up in haste to get rid of the gigantic stock.

The Canjar set trigger shoe does have to be removed to remove the action from the stock and trigger guard. There are two screws on the shoe, one holds the shoe on while the other is the set trigger adjustment. It has been over 20 years since I installed one so I don't remember which screw is which. As I remember, the adjustment screw doesn't go all the way through while the attaching screw does. The parts are captured on the shoe so pieces don't go flying across the room.
