To All,

I've been struggling with a Canjar trigger. I acquired a Heym/Ruger HR-38DL (or Exclusive model) some years ago when a gun dealer / hunting buddy of mine in Massachusetts talked me into taking it off his hands after a client backed out on the deposit so I got it very, very discounted. I shot it off the bench about 20 rounds worth (.30-06) and since then it's been in my gun cabinet looking pretty. I never realized that the Canjar trigger was a single set until researching for my Collector's licence here in Cape Town (you don't want to know --- UGH --- just hope the "new administration" doesn't adopt the South African licensing system). All of the HR-38DLs were chambered for .30-06 and produced with a Canjar single set trigger. I haven't the foggiest idea how to adjust the trigger. It has some small screw on the trigger itself, one in front and one on the left side but I am very reluctant to mess with them. When I fired it with the fairly heavy pull (over 15 years ago) obviously in the "not set" mode I was barely able to hold 1 MOA at 100 yds off a rest which wasn't anywhere near what my other rifles were capable of shooting. It is a beautiful piece however and I can't complain about the price I paid for it especially with the current price of gold and engraving being what they are.

I am aware of how the Canjar is supposed to function but I can't push the trigger forward and get the small tab to click in the "set" position and there isn't a lot of room behind the trigger and the trigger guard. I see the small screw on the left side of the trigger and one on the front but I hesitate to mess with them until I have some more information. They pobably could use a bit of WD-40 or the like but, again, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I hate stripped screw heads, especially tiny ones on valuable rifles.
Í'd be most appreciative if someone could steer me to some detailed instructions on "the mysteries of the Canjar".

Thanks,

Peter

Complements of the Season as they say in South Africa

Many thanks. I've downloaded the instruction sheets and I will have a good look at them. I very much appreciate your assistance.
