Anyone here with experience installing a Canjar Single-Set Trigger on a Ruger #1? I'm installing my first, and would appreciate some help.

The trigger is installed and working, but ...

1. The trigger pull weight is very heavy and I can't adjust it. The adjustment screw seems to have no effect.

2. The single-set trigger doesn't work at all. The trigger shoe locks into the forward position but, when I pull the set trigger, all that happens is that the shoe snaps back to it's normal position. I can't figure out how it's supposed to work.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Canjar's instructions leave a lot to be desired and my Web search has turned up nothing helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Hog

I just got their phone number and I intend to call this afternoon. Based on other people's experience, I'm not expecting much success.

Are you farther north of Dallas than Plano or Frisco?

Mike,
I'm in Garland with my alley being the Dallas city limit and 1/4 mile south of Richardson. When I first logged in, I didn't think people would know Garland, so I used an area that peolpe would know. Let me know if Canjar doesn't have much advice.

Hog,

No, I haven't. Left a couple of messages, but no call-back. I'm getting ready to take it to my 'smith but, first, I need to find the one and only spring that actually comes from Canjar. It's the one that's tapered and puts downward pressure on the trigger shoe. I don't imagine it's custom-made.

The one thing that has me intrigued (in the middle of the night) is how the set trigger is supposed to work. I can't see any way that it could move the trigger lever to release the sear. I'd think I was missing a part, except that the directions (such as they are) don't seem to indicate that there is anything else.

Thanks for asking ... and for letting me rant.

Mike

The Canjar single set is deceptively simple.
To set it, you push the shoe forward until it latches and the little set trigger protrudes. When you touch the little set trigger, it releases the trigger shoe to snap backwards and apply force to the shank of the trigger and through it to the sear engagement, just as though you had sharply tapped a regular trigger. That is all it takes, there is no extra linkage from set trigger to sear engagement.

Jim,

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of explanation I've been looking for. BUT ... it still leaves me with a question. How does what you've described create a lighter trigger pull? It sounds like you're saying that, after the trigger snaps back to it's norman position, it is pulled conventially with the same amount of force as required when the single-set trigger isn't engaged.

Thanks again for the information. I'm sure I'm not seeing something very obvious.

Mike

It is the impact of the shoe snapping back into position that knocks the sear out of engagement. No pull required beyond a touch on the little set trigger.
