Other being anything that works as well as Sig and H&K but costs way less. They are overpriced in my opinion especially the H&K. Glock, XD, M&P, SR9, P95, CZ75, etc....

A 9mm Glock is tough to beat for a lot of folks. I've got a little G36 for my .45 of choice. It packs well, it shoots anything (I routinely feed it and carry in it Tula hardball at about $15 a box), and it just refuses to rust or break. It's my HD back up/"fight to the safe" gun. I'm not a Glock Perfection guy, but viewed as a tool it's tough to beat.

However for 9mm, I prefer the Ruger P series. 15 + 1 capacity, very inexpensive to buy, will eat anything including lead bullets (even though I don't reload), accurate, etc. Also, I'm not a fan of "safety-less" striker fired pistols for carry. Just personal preference. I like hammers or LONG pulls on my carry pieces.

My buddy has a P95 that shoots like a dream. Love that gun. I personally prefer the size of the P-89. It's a big chunky gun. Perfect for HD, Truck duty, or going camping. It soaks up recoil and gives a nice presentation that you are in fact holding a big honkin' gun.

When I left the nest, I already had reloading equipment, so I built a 6' bench and set it up in my apartment. Worked out fine, and now I'm using the same bench in our house. Only problem with the apartment setup was the fact that there wasn't air conditioning. Here in WV, it gets pretty warm in the southern coalfields area. True that I can load a box of FMJ 45's for about $10., box of 9MM runs me about $6, if I buy primers and bullets in 1,000 piece lots. But, gunaholics don't need an excuse to buy another piece! It's all good. Take care, good luck with your choices, half the fun of this hobby is that there are endless choices, none of them bad, as I see it! It helps that I have a non-shooting, but understanding spouse. Been shooting and loading for almost half a century, it's something I never grow tired of.

I voted other for reloading, and if it's got to be a 9mm pistol, then Hi-Power. (not necessarily Browning. FEG/Charles Daly made good ones too)

It's always amusing to see the number of posters who push the benefits of reloading. Those benefits are certainly real, but you either want to to do it or you don't. I used to reload and now I don't. I enjoyed it for a while, but I ultimately had loads of money tied up in equipment and components, and I found that I lacked the time to devote to something that I'd come to regard as tedious and time-consuming. Others have different perspectives, so my opinion is only that. Just make sure to do it because you really want to do it.

As for a second 9mm, options abound. Find a good 3rd-generation S&W. I think they're a good sight better than the current M&P line. But again, opinions vary wildly. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I'd suggest buying another G19 (3rd Gen) or G26. I opted for the 2nd G19 when I heard about the design change.
Recently bought a SIG P250 Sub-compact in 9mm because you can change calibers with a conversion kit. A little smaller than the G19, ambi and true DAO. So far so good for $369.

A big reason I bought a "9" is ammo cost. Factory ammo in 9mm is still pretty cheap, 45 ACP is rediculous. I reload 40 S&W, that's the only way I can afford to shoot 300 rounds/month out of that.

Buy a Ruger P95 and be done with it if you want a inexpensive 9mm. Mine shoots everything in 9mm I put thru it.

.45acp is not expensive, you can usually find a walmart and get the 100rd winchester white boxes for $32 a box or order offline for 15.50 for a box of 50rds. Just stock up when you can and you don't have to worry about the ammo cost.

Another 9mm epiphany!

If I was you I'd just stick with your Glock 19. But if you must have another 9mm (and don't like M&Ps for whatever unconscionable reason ;) ) try a CZ 75 or other CZ. They're great guns, priced right and would give you something different in your collection. The Ruger SR9 is also high on my list.

Just stock up when you can and you don't have to worry about the ammo cost.

Until next time you have to stock up.

My most recent addition is a Ruger SR9-C and I think its a stellar pistol. I ordered 1000 rounds of S&B 9mm from surplus ammo, for $205 shipped. The 45 ACP runs about $350/1000 before shipping. $150/case cheaper adds up FAST!

Once I start loading 9mm, I can bring that cost down to $120/1000.

For the record, I voted for the P226. I love mine.

But, if you are happy with a G19, then I'm not sure that another full-size 9mm is what you need. Why not get a G26? You'd still have a backup, and you could carry the G26 concealed. And, the mags are interchangeable with your G19. Another advantage is that you won't need to learn the feel of another gun.

As mentioned earlier, I'd just get another G19. No need to buy different holsters, magazines, or learn another manual of arms.

If you are happy with your 19, and want a full size 9mm to compliment it, the 17 is an absolute no-brainer here... No new system to learn; shooting characteristics are extremely similar, there is a GREAT deal of parts interchangability between the two; and like others said, you can detail strip the entire thing with nothing but a punch in less than 5 minutes. The chances that a Glock would ever need to go to a gunsmith are exceedingly remote. There isn't a part on it that you can't swap yourself.

I've cannibalized parts off my 19 to use on my 34 a couple times while waiting on replacements. It is a nice capability.

umber two is HK voids the warranty if you shoot reloads

EVERY gun maker voids the warranty on using reloading ammo - or so they say - unless you blow up the gun, they aren't going to ask - that's their corporate lawyer-speak

I do this with my S&W 1911E but I shoot my 9mm BHP and my edc Kahr pm9 more (again with wwb).
I shoot .22s the most though. 2 pistols and a CZ452 .22lr. $6/100 CCI SV.
And, I may buy a CZ75B 9mm in SS tomorrow at a lgs sale.

If you like the Glock 19....

...and if it's going to be your EDC....

...and if you're going to practice with it...

....why not just get another G19 as your second pistol? There. Same gun. Works the same, shoots the same, same manual of arms, etc.

And yes, Glocks can break. Just like anything else.

I'm an unemployed portfolio manager. I had to give up shooting my .45s so much, as the cost is prohibitive. I went to 9mm and that allowed me to discover the wonderful world of CZ. Try the CZ 75 platform, even the SP-01. IMHO it is the best out of the box 9mm available. I use both my SP-01 and 75B in action pistol competitions.

I voted for the P226, I own a P229. If you want a SIG without the high price tag but the same quality take a look at the SIG SP2022, you can get one for about $400.

Buy a recoil spring assembly, trigger spring and a slide lock spring and maybe an ejector. Get all Glock OEM parts and for $50 or so you'll have spares of the most likely parts to break that you'll likely never use.

Replacement is 3yo simple and there are instruction all over the internet.
