Reasons NOT to go CZ 75/85 as a first handgun?

Pretty much said it in the title. I've been looking around a lot and trying out lots of guns: GP 100, G19, G22, S&W M&P in 9mm, HK P-30, 1911. I picked up the CZ 75B at a shop the other day and instantly fell in love with the way it felt in my hand. When I brought it up the sights lined up perfectly. I like the heft of it as well. While I haven't shot it, I've done enough research that I'm pretty enamored with it to the point that I don't think it will matter.
This will be mostly a "for fun" gun. I imagine that I'm eventually going to go ahead and get that GP 100. And the 1911. And the G-19. And the G-20. Well, there are worse ways to spend money.

Only reason not to is if you can't afford it. Great choice. Also look into the Kadet Kit, so you can practice on the same frame/trigger pull with .22lr.
Go for it!
Next, get professional training, even if it's just the range safety officers classes at your local range, or the NRA pistol course, get what you can.

Dont buy a CZ if you:

-want a very unreliable weapon.
-want an overpriced weapon.
-want an ugly weapon.
-want a weapon with poor fit and finish.

There is practically no pistol that feels as good in my hand as the CZ75/85. However, make sure you can easily work the controls.

For me, the trigger reach is a little too far in double action mode, and I can't easily reach the thumb safety in single action mode.

There is no pistol I want to like more than these models, but for the above mentioned reasons, I don't own one.

You have made a great choice. As you´ve been reading about them, you probably already know that you can tweak it without much money. Add a competition hammer for about $65, maybe a lighter hammer spring from Wolff for like $8 more, and you´ll have something that acts $750 more expensive than it cost!

Enjoy

The slide is to small and it annoyed me when reloading. So the fix was a hi power. Other than a puny slide go for it!!! Oh and it's a bit hefty but I like a gun with some meat on it ;)

WARNING: The surgeon general has determined that CZ handguns are addictive and may be detrimental to your wallet's health. Fire at your own risk.

The CZ 75B was my first handgun. Still my favorite. I have had several others, but I keep coming back to it. Jump on it. I recommend the 9mm for the low cost of ammo. Then, save up for the Kadet kit. Worth every penny.

There aren't many bad things to say about the CZ 75B.
But here a few negatives....

Although some folks will no doubt argue this notion....it's just too big and heavy for concealed everyday carry.

The trigger-pull is rather long and has a long re-set as well.

Accessories and parts are not very easily found in most brick-and-mortar stores.

Since the slide rides inside the rails it offers less material to grab when racking the slide.

The sights are a bit too small for my taste.

It was business before pleasure for me. My first handgun was my CCW gun, a Kahr CW9. I bought it first as that is what I got the CCW permit for, to carry for defense.
Next was the CZ75 for the "fun gun" as you put it and it is definitely fun to shoot. A few weeks ago just like you I held it in the shop and a couple days later it was mine.
If you are of age to carry or are about to be in the near future I would first look into a smaller gun for carry as easyg noted they are fairly hefty and cumbersome for carry.
I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs and that thing would in no way carry concealed on my body unless I decided to start wearing a coat in 95+ degree weather here in Sunny Florida.
Unless you are positive you will have the funds later for a smaller/lighter carry weapon I would look into the CCW first.

Went with the SP-01 Tactical as my first pistol, very pleased and plan to do some IDPA with it.

I chose it for the same reasons you like it - solid feel, well shaped for my hand, and natural sight pictures. If the gun fits you well I think it would serve you well too.

I picked up a used CZ-75B in 9mm for $350, and it quickly became my favorite handgun. It fit my giant sasquatch hands better then any other handgun I've held, and I tore the center out of the target the first time I shot it.

Needless to say, I'm now a huge CZ fan :D

Great pistol the CZ 75B, but out of the box the trigger is disapointing. I would or should have bought a .22 target pistol first, but I had to have the 9mm S&W model 39. I developed bad pistol shooting habits that took many years and a lot of practice with a .22 to overcome. By all means get the CZ but learn to shoot with a .22 first... you can thank me later.

The only real drawback to the CZ75 (IMHO) is that the slide is very short (vertical height) which makes getting a good grip very difficult for me. I have seen a few people peel back some serious skin on my TZ due to this very issue. Other than that I have no real complaints on reliability, functionality, etc...

errr because you get a good deal on a G19. $475 NIB with trijicon night sights. That's the only reason I didn't walk out of a shop with a new CZ.

Blehhh, somehow Glock gets into this one too. I need a break from this place for a while. I'm Glocked out.
Sorry to offend any Glockaholics but it's fans are like Amway sales people and get paid commission for a sale.

The CZ platform makes a fine first pistol. It's DA pull is better than many other DA/SA handguns, and it's SA is clearly nicer than, say, a P95 or a P226. The SA pull is not as crisp a trigger as a 1911, but it's better than my striker-fired ploymer guns.

As has been noted, it has relatively 'combat' oriented sights. That was traditionally my biggest gripe with it, but the aftermarket has several options these days if the OEM sights are not to your liking.

In the thread starter's original post, he (or she) did mention the G19.
So Glocks were mentioned from the very first post.

Maybe you didn't read the first post?
