I cant seem to find the S&W 686 P 4 inch barrel 7 shot revolver. I have called every gun shop in a 50 mile radius and none of them have it and none of them will order one for me. Is anyone else having this problem? I dont understand. Im willing to give them money if they order what I want, but they wont do it.

I went into "Bob's Gun Shop" in Norfolk today asking if they could special order it for me and the guy behind the counter told me its "never gonna happen". He said it could be like 9 months before they get stock in. Are you serious? And then odds are they will get a limited supply in, they wont call me, and when I go in to check if they have em they wont...

Why is this particular revolver so hard to find? I mean im not trying to find rare guns here. These firearms are still in production. I wont buy any other model or settle for any other barrel length.

Has to be a 686 P 7 shot 4 inch barrel.

If anyone stays in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and knows of a gun shop selling this firearm, please email me the store name so I can give them a call.

Kind a far, but did you call Dance's Sporting in Colonial Height Va. They usually have good selection of both new and used revolvers.

Dont be sad you can't find a 686 like that. (I happen to own one, the good version without the dumb lock). You probably couldnt find ammo for it anyway.

I've been looking for one for awhile too. My local stores have all the 357 ammo I could ever want but no 686's and no one can order one. I'm not at the point of being willing to spend $200 or more over what they normally go for on gunbroker. I picked up a GP100 to quench my 357 thirst so I'll just be patient and if I never find one..... Then I'll over spend on one :)

Thats interesting about the ammo situation in different parts of the country. Ive only found one local place that has any 357 mag ammo and it ain't cheap. I prefer lower pressure, lower muzzle blast rounds so buy a lot more 38 than 357 anyway.

That GB 686+ went for $ 1055 . . . amazing. I gotta no lock model that's only shot one box of ammo through it. Practically brand new. I hadn't planned on selling it . . . . but these kinda prices are crazy

Yeah,, that is a rediculous price to pay. Personally, I wouldn't do it. JMO

I wouldn't either. Considering I bought a new 5'' 686 Plus Talo a year ago for $705 OTD. I personally wouldn't pay MSRP much less than $220 over it. Give this crap a few months and there once again will be a normal supply and normal prices. While I doubt that prices will ever be what they were....they will go back to the point where only the big box chain stores will try and sell firearms for MSRP.

I guess my question is, are 686's generally easy to find? Is it really just a matter of letting this all blow over? I started looking for one around mid January so after all this panic started and I don't really know what their availability was like prior to all this.

Ya Im not really willing to pay over $900 for the gun. And ive never bought a gun online either so I am very hesitant.

Did Bob's have any 686 ssr in stock when you went? I have been looking for that version of the 686.

MrBladeDude: "Ya Im not really willing to pay over $900 for the gun. And ive never bought a gun online either so I am very hesitant."

Well in todays market it can be tough to find what youre looking for if you don't buy online. That way you have access to the national market, not just whats in your own town.
IMO you gotta check their online feedback and get a 3 day non-shooting inspection period on a used gun. That's the minimum requirement for me when it comes to buying online. I also pay attention to how quickly/well they respond to emails or phone calls.

Thankfully, several items on my long term "Want List" came up in the months before the panic started. So, I didnt pay the inflated prices. I imagine it is tough for guys just starting out.

I've found that while I'm trying to track down a particular gun, it helps me to make several practice purchases.

You may want to try Shooters Supply,& Law Enforcement , Louisville Ky 40222,502-327-6827 ,www.shooterssupply.com, or check them out on Facebook,I believe their the largest S&W dealer in KY. I just picked up a S&W Pro-632 in .327 mag & a Pro M640 in .357 mag.I'll be over there this weekend & if I see one I'll get back to you.

Don't blame the gun shops in your area, it's not their fault. They can not order directly from S&W, they order from their distributors and all the distributors are out of most handguns with no restock dates available. My shooting buddy owns a local gun shop and he's going through the same thing. Blame the panic buyers, not the gun shops...

I understand your hesitation, but yeah, check a sellers feedback. I just took the plunge myself. I have a 686 Competitor on layaway. Smooth so far, except for a mistake on my part. Buying online isn't so bad once you do it the first time. Of coarse, I haven't taken possesion of the gun yet, so we'll see.

S&W 686+ 4'' as of today 03/27/2013 @ 1500 hrs LOTUS GUN WORKS Louisville KY ( 502-267-4867) also on facebook has one in its display case for $750.00, hopes this helps,
Jim
