I saw most if not all the threads were closed, but this is truly a newsworthy thing to talk about regardless of what some could think as it could happen in your town as regarding lawful concealed carry, or, as the story below says, lawful driving down the road.

Anyway, one of our local news agencies is running this out, and now they have a 3rd, yes a third video of him (Harless) threatening to execute a civilian

http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_ ... th-threats

The police chief says he never knew there was a problem. I bet the mayor and folks in Canton are just besides themselves. I now wonder when the Feds are going to get involved in this

they tweaked the link,

here it is

http://www.newsnet5.com/

http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/lo...of-canton-police-officer-making-death-threats

basically they posted up the 3rd video. here is the text of the article

AKRON, Ohio - NewsChannel5's investigative team obtained a third video that once again shows a Canton police officer making death threats during a traffic stop.

Officer Daniel Harless was the subject of national media attention in July when a video of Harless cursing and making death threats during a traffic stop went viral.

In the latest video, you see Harless pull over a car for no apparent reason. Harless then makes threats to shoot one of the passengers inside.

NewsChannel5's investigators also obtained hundreds of pages of records on Harless, including more than one dozen other internal affairs complaints.

We asked Chief Dean McKimm about why nothing has been done until now. He said until he saw the tapes, he never knew Harless had any problems.

We are digging through all of the records we obtained and will have a full story at 11 p.m. on NewsChannel5. We'll also post our full investigation here on newsnet5.com.

Some of it may be past whatever local statute of limitations may apply, legally speaking, for charges to befiled. Professionally is different, but that carries only the penalty of applying to work at WalMart.
This guy is a running sore on the face of law enforcement, and Canton the protector of the pus.

Why does the audio get so much quieter right when he starts making the threats? He probably took his mic off...

Canton PD needs to suffer...suffer very very much for keeping this trash employed

my god.....does anyone elses skin crawl when they listen to this guy?

i can only pray this guy loses his job.....and every future employer searches his name and finds these videos.....and the only place he can work is the drive through at burger king....

its actually appalling that he can run around like this......and the higher-up in canton actually support him.

Folks as we discuss this, I would like to make sure that the thread simply stays on the subject of the LEO and his actions and the subsequent issues involving the CHL holder. I posted this to help keep focus on this case as it potentially affects every CHL holder in the state of Ohio. So far the discussions have stayed that way. For which I say thanks.

drcook and I had a visit in PM about this thread. This is the Legal sub forum so it's important that we stick to the legal issues.

Thread drift, especially towards any generic cop bashing stuff, will get it closed.

Thanks for the help!

the OFCC http://ohioccwforums.org/index.php is going to use this incident to help get the law changed regarding notification here in Ohio.

the reason that this case has made such an impact on me, is that I have driven through Canton LOTS of times with numerous if not lots of different types of firearms being transported legally in the back of my truck (that was the legal caveat I actually have a truck cap on and what is called a bedrug in it. But I digress.) on the way to the gun range I belong to.

additionally my wife and I have gone through the classwork and have to simply apply for our CHL licenses. I would not want my wife to have to face something like this.

I mentioned in our private discussion (as mentioned above) that what I can do is contribute money to the defense fund and try to keep it in front of everyone so that it doesn't get forgotten. So that is why I posted it again. I don't want the matter to drop and neither should any of us.

tonite I also sent a letter to the Canton Chamber of Commerce urging them to help in the house cleaning as it is affecting them monetarily. I also sent an email letter, pointing out the newstory to the FBI asking them when are they going to get involved.

best regards to all here

Armoredman,

I did that when the story first came out. Tonite I reiterated the same thing to the Chamber of Commerce, telling them how my family and I would not spend any money within the city limits of Canton and why.

I sent it to the Chamber of Commerce so that the "money people", the ones that contribute the real money to political candidates, hopefully understand what notoriety like this can affect their bottom line and livelyhood.

Wasn't it a guy on the chamber of commerce, or the city board of directors who came out and basically defended the Canton PD and chastised people who don't live in Canton for commenting on this matter?

Someone needs to remind him of Jefferson's quote

"We are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it. "

It was Schulman, the City Council President.

I would wonder how many other people there may have been that are affected by this officer. We now have three fairly recent videos of one particular officer threatening to execute citizens. Plus the news agency reported having records of a dozen or so IA complaints against this same officer. :what: I'm going to guess they're for similiar things.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to file some sort of class action suit against the PD and/or city at this point? It appears as though the PD has problem, that they've known about, and has chosen to do nothing. So is it legally possible for the all the citizens he's dealt this way with to get together and go after the city or the PD together? I would think that a dozen people filing a class action against Canton PD would get the chief's attention real fast.

Harless didn't do all of these things all at once. He shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to deal with them all at once.

I'd like to see these things come in in ones and twos for YEARS.

Let Harless, the clueless Chief, the Canton PD and the City of Canton die a death of a thousand cuts in civil court and the court of public opinion.

By the time this is done, even if he doesn't get prosecuted, Harless won't be able to get a job working the 3:00am shift, selling tokens at an adult bookstore.

"I also sent an email letter, pointing out the newstory to the FBI asking them when are they going to get involved."

- I was wondering how long this would take.

The biggest losers will be the tax payers in Canton.
If I was a citizen of Canton Ohio I'd be demanding action to stop further abuses.

He has crossed the line now many times. He needs to be stripped of the right to wear the badge or carry a gun for the rest of his Life. He is a disgrace to the uniform and the calling I believe Police Work to be. IMO he is beyond rehabing.

I worked law enforcement for 20 years. My credo was, "Either give a ticket/make an arrest, or give a warning (I never did like lectures, but sometimes they work), but not both. My thing was, if giving a warning, keeping it brief, to the point, and getting on with my patrol or other assignment. I never had time to ridicule, berate, or insult a person being stopped. If I had grounds and necessity for an arrest, I made an arrest. If a warning was given, I felt it would be unprofessional to be running MY mouth at a suspect, nor did I want to hear a lot from them. I sometimes DID NOT MIRANDIZE because I knew I was not going to ask them questions....I already had the goods on them; screw any so-called confession or questioning. Either you have grounds for arrest, or what ARE you doing there? I was taught to make my mind up about whether to arrest or warn for traffic, etc, BEFORE I walked up to the car, and then NOT let a person talk me out of it. THAT is being professional. One time a guy I stopped was in a station wagon with family on Sunday morning, all dressed for church. 42mph in a 25 zone. I was going to give a warning. Right off the bat, the guy started riding my ass over, "Don't you have anything better to do? Aren't thee burglars out there to arrest?" Etc. I smiled, and noticed his wife embarassed, looking away, out the passenger window. Two kid in the back, attention glued to me and their dad. I said, "Sir, I was just going to give you a warning. And (pause), I'm not going to let you talk me out of it." And sent them on their way. I'll bet that warning was more effective than any lecture I could have given. When I see the way this Canton cop treated people, it makes me sick.

What will it take to get this nutcase fired?
Given the likely unqualified support of the local police union, an unrelenting public campaign against Harless and the Canton PD.

There wouldn't be ANY action so far were it not for the YouTube release of the first video and the subsequent digging by the media.

People who care have to make it uneconomical to continue to employ Harless.
